Window Energy Performance Ratings and Technologies
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, buildings consume 40 percent of all the energy used nationwide. Achieving optimal energy efficiency in buildings can drastically reduce overall energy consumption, and windows can play a key role in achieving improved performance. Building energy codes, standards and voluntary practices exist to provide a target for achieving recognized and acceptable levels of energy efficiency and establish minimum performance standards for residential and commercial buildings.
This course will provide a thorough introduction to the relationship between windows and energy efficiency and the importance of installing appropriate windows with high performance technologies. We will discuss window performance ratings and how they can help to reduce energy costs and improve the comfort of building occupants.
Course provided by The Soco Studio and Milgard Windows & Doors.

The Architectural & Design Uses of RECLAIMED WOODS
How to Specify and Select Award-Winning Wood Products and Flooring Learn how to skillfully specify and implement luxury, reclaimed wood into your designs. This virtually indestructible antique wood is often the requested product of choice for use in high-end homes, universities, government entities, libraries and historic building renovations. Reclaimed and River Recovered® flooring has been the center of many award-winning designs and acclaimed architecture. However, because of grading differences, manufacturing and terminology, it is often difficult to assess which wood is appropriate for particular projects. We'll show you how to evaluate and choose the perfect wood to transform your beautiful designs into awe-inspiring masterpieces!

LiA's Scholarship Project
In our continued effort to make an impact in the Latino community, especially with young Latino students in High School, and to promote the architecture profession, LiA members have embarked in an effort to raise money to fund a scholarship(s) for a Latino student(s) who might be interested in architecture to attend "Architecture Summer Academy" at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture (UTSOA).
The Summer Academy is designed for people who have limited background in architecture and who wish to explore their interests in the field. Applicants to the Summer Academy are a minimum of 17 years of age and are typically considering applying to undergraduate or graduate degree programs in architecture at the University of Texas at Austin or other similar institutions of higher education. Applicants are solely responsible for applying to and getting accepted to the UTSOA Summer Academy in order to be eligible for the scholarship.

Advocacy365: Making Your Voice Heard Year-Round
As AIA members head to Washington later this month for the 2013 Grassroots Legislative & Leadership Conference, the Issues & Advocacy page is focusing on what it means to be an advocate for the AIA. Being an advocate for the profession means more than just going to Capitol Hill once a year. AIA members need to engage with legislators and their staff year-round to make sure that legislators keep issues important to architects in the forefront of their minds when making policy decisions. That is why the AIA has created the tools you need to be an advocate 365 days a year. Whether it is joining the newly create Grassroots Network, supporting ArchiPAC, or participating in online advocacy, you can make your voice heard in the manner of your choosing through the use of these resources.
