President's Message
By Sue Manley

I cannot say enough about our PTA volunteers.  A big thank you to Shannon Johnson and Kelly Plageman who brought the fun to Shady Grove at our Rock-A-Thon.  Our parent volunteers bank thousands of hours doing Morning Drop Off, Welcome Center, Room Parent, Copy Parent, Cafeteria Volunteer and of course our PTA Board.  Thank you for your time to help our children learn in a safe, nurturing school.

At this time of year, we begin to think about reaching out to parents who wish to join our PTA board, our dedicated volunteers who make plans and organize programs, cultural arts, after-school activities, spirit wear, yearbook, website, and so much more.  If you have been wondering how you can get involved, we are currently forming a nominating committee to help us recruit volunteers and this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the PTA.  Please contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer.

Rock-A-Thon
Our 2nd annual Rock-A-Thon was held this past Thursday night and was a huge success with over 300 Shady Grove Cardinals in attendance! We are so proud of how dedicated our families are to raising money for Shady Grove's  Thomas B. Fernald Scholarship fund. We would like to thank all of the wonderful parents and faculty who volunteered their time and efforts to help ensure a fun and safe night for our children. We would also like to thank our wonderful sponsors, Drs. Norman, Obeck and Foy Dentistry,West End Orthodontics,  Dr. Scott Vantre at Virginia Foot and Ankle Specialists,  Jumpology,  Kid Med and Commonwealth Primary Care. Please remember to support these wonderful sponsors and partners in our community.

We still have Rockin' Socks available- please contact Shannon Johnson for ordering information.
Attention Car Riders:
We are greatly in need of more parent volunteers at the drop off loop.  Please consider taking at least one shift a month if you are a parent that drives your child to school regularly.  The shift is from 7:20-7:40am.  Our school greatly appreciates the time parents take to volunteer at the drop-off loop, ensuring a safe and efficient drop-off system at Shady Grove.  For more information, please contact Erika Arnason.
Programs
When was the last time you had a fun-filled, free night out for the whole family? Don't miss our Comedy Magic Show with Michael Douglas on February 21, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the Shady Grove Gym.

To give everyone a good view of the show, open seating will be available on the floor, with a limited number of chairs in the back of the Gym. You are welcome to bring a blanket for your family to sit on, if you like.

Admission:  a new or gently used children's book, to be donated to the Children's Museum of Richmond book drive.  We ask for a donation of at least 1 book per family, but please bring as many as you can. Share the magic of reading with kids in our area who may not have books of their own. Members of Cub Scout Pack 763 will be available at the door to receive and box your donations.

We will be giving away great door prizes for the kids, and you must be present to win.

Please mark your calendars for February 21, and we'll see you at the show!
********Silent Auction********
Great news..... the Silent Auction will be joining the End of Year Picnic on May 16!
