Principal's Message

Opportunity Knocks!

As we begin another wonderful year at Shady Grove, our thoughts turn to the tremendous contributions that parent volunteers make to our schools each day. From morning arrival to afternoon departure, our very active volunteers make a meaningful difference in the school lives of our children. We cannot thank our volunteers enough or too often!

 

Two of the volunteer opportunities that help us immeasurably in getting the school day off to a smooth start are Front Loop Helpers and Welcome Center Monitors. These two areas take on particular importance right now because they promote the safety of the children in many ways.

 

We are happy to provide the following contact information if you would like to find out more about either of the roles or would like to offer your services. Again, thank you for all you do for our school!

Rock-A-Thon
It is getting COLD outside but on January 24th, the Shady Grove gym will be HOT. All your Shady Grove cardinals will be ROCKING the gym at The Shady Grove Rock-A-Thon.  Make sure you get your pledge money turned in to your teacher ASAP so you can join in on the action.  We will have great games, a dynamic DJ, a photo booth, a visit from Nutsy the squirrel and Cardinal students showing off their amazing talent!! The proceeds from the Rock-A-Thon benefit the Thomas B. Fernald Scholarship Fund.

Programs
Save the Date:
Thursday evening, February 21st
PTA Programs invites you and your family for a night of Magic and Comedy with the "kid-rageously" funny Michael Douglas.
Admission will be a new or lightly used book per person for our book drive.
(More details coming soon.) 
Yearbook
The last day to personalize yearbooks is January 31.
 
Don't forget to order your 2012-2013 SGES yearbook. If you are ordering by check the price is $25. If you pay with charge online the price is $23. Yearbook price will increase to $30 on March 1. If  you have any questions about yearbook orders contact Deb Armstrong 
Directories
There are a limited number of this year's directories remaining and they are for sale for $3. Checks should be written out to SGES PTA.  Please put the money in an envelope with the name of your child and their teacher's name.  The directory will be sent home with the child you indicate. 
Fundraising
Great job Cardinals! Our Barnes and Noble Spirit Night raised $648.85 for SGES. We appreciate all of the parents, students, teachers, administrators and staff who made this a great event for SGES. Thank you!

We look forward to seeing you at our Silver Diner Spirit Night later this spring! 
Box Tops Challenge

The Spring and End of the Year Box Tops Challenge continues with a chance to win an extra recess or a kickball game, kids vs parents. Please send in your clipped boxtops to increase your chance of winning. Remember to visit the PTA website for more ways to earn box tops. Thank you for your continued support.
