Redistricting Round 2
I would like to start by thanking Kaje Stuckey and Dennis Berman, the Shady Grove representatives to the HCPS redistricting committee.  They have been working very hard to represent our school during this difficult redistricting process.

As we all gear up for the second community input session being held tomorrow, Wednesday, October 24, 2012, from 6:00- 8:00 p.m., in the Hermitage High School Gym, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the current status of the redistricting plan.  As a result of the first public input session, Option B has been eliminated, however four new options are open for consideration.   Please remember the remaining options are in the draft phase and they may be combined, removed and/or readjusted before being presented to the school board.

The options will be posted on the county website redistricting website tomorrow and I encourage you to review the options before you attend the input session and/or complete the online feedback form that will be available from Wednesday, October 24, through Sunday, October 28, 2012.

When you review the options, please consider the redistricting committee's goals:
  • to inhabit a beautiful new school at 60%+ capacity
  • to alleviate overcrowding at several area schools
  • to plan for future development and minimize future redistricting
  • to impact the least amount of children county-wide
With the success of Shady Grove's showing during the first public input survey, I am hopeful that we will once again have high participation in this process and support our county and our school.

Bylaws Revision

According to Article XIX of the bylaws governing Shady Grove Elementary PTA, the bylaws of this association shall be submitted to the Virginia State Office every five (5) years for approval by the VAPTA Bylaws Committee.  Shady Grove formed a committee to review our current bylaws and make revisions.  Thank you to Kaje Stuckey, Jody Floegel, Melissa Taylor and Lucille Lindamood for your work on this committee.  A copy of the revised bylaws has been posted on our website www.sgespta.org and will be available for review and comment for the next 30 days.  At that time, the general membership will vote to approve the revised bylaws and then send them on to the VAPTA.  A general membership vote will need to occur after the 30 day period expires on Nov. 22 and before the deadline on Nov. 27.

Morning Drop Off
You may have noticed the morning drop off lines getting a little longer now that the temperature is dropping and the mornings are darker.  We would like to ask everyone to consider helping out in the mornings for a quick shift (7:20 to 7:40) to help us keep our arriving Cardinals safe and on-time.  We currently have only 32 parents signed-up to help, and there are many unfilled spots on the Nov. and Dec. nList volunteer calendars.  Please consider registering on nList to help or contact Erika Arnason [email protected] if you have any questions.

If you are unable to work the morning drop off loop, you can still help - please arrive at the school before 7:30.  The busiest time is between 7:30 at 7:40 and unfortunately, as the drop off line gets longer, it will become more difficult for our volunteers to help get all of our children out of their cars safely and into the school on time.

Thank you,
Sue Manley
