A chill is in the air and pumpkins are popping up everywhere! October already! The PTA is looking forward to the grand reveal of the STEM lab this Thursday night, October 18th. See the details below. Also in October are several of the cultural arts programs that are brought to the school by you, our PTA members. See the schedule below.
The results of the on-line school redistricting survey are in and I am so proud of our Shady Grove parents. One third of the comments to the county came from our community (283 respondents). As a result of the feedback, the redistricting committee has adjusted their schedule and will be adding another opportunity for the public to provide input. DRAFT boundary options will be posted on the website www.hcpsboundaries.org Oct. 19th and they will accept community input through the online feedback form from Friday, Oct. 19th through Monday, Oct. 22nd at noon. Let's continue to let the county hear our voice. We are wrapping up the directory data-collection this week. If you have not submitted the ONE-FORM that has your directory information at the top, please print out the form and send it in. Also, if you ordered spirit-wear when you turned in your form, look for it to be delivered this week.

Cultural Arts
This month is very exciting for the Cultural Arts Program. The PTA has provided for the following performances coming up in the next two weeks:
- October 19th is the Latin Ballet performing for the 2nd & 3rd grade students.
- October 24th will be Theatre IV's performance of "The Wonderful World of Simple Machines" for the 3rd and 4th grades
- October 26th will again be Theatre IV performing "The True Story of Pocahontas" for the Kindergarten and 1st grade classes.

Box Tops Challenge
Who likes RECESS? Who wants more RECESS? Well here's your chance! The Box Tops Fall Challenge continues through October 23. Now is the time to send in the Box Tops that you have clipped. The K-2 and 3-5 class that collects the most Box Tops during the Fall Challenge will win an extra recess period!

Fundraising
Check Writing Campaign
 Thanks to everyone who has become a Cardinal Donor or who has donated to our check writing campaign to date. There is still time left to make a donation or to up your donation to Cardinal Donor status!
Our contests are now well underway. The first three classrooms with 100% participation, no matter the amount of the donation, receive a free ice cream party. Mrs. Smallwood's class has won the first contest, but there are 2 parties left to be awarded. In addition, one classroom per grade level with the highest number of Cardinal Donors will receive a free cultural arts program called "The Magic of Reading." You must donate before November 7th to be entered into our two contests. Please hurry, we are running out of Cardinal Donor magnets! Spirit Nights
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our California Pizza Spirit Night. Mrs. Turner's class won a free pizza party with the most number of attendees. Please mark your calendar for our next spirit night on Wednesday, December 5th for our Barnes and Nobles Book Fair. There will be student musical performances and teacher readings. We look forward to seeing you all at this very fun event! |
