2012/13 SMART GRANTS ANNOUNCED

Thanks to the generosity of Oracle, we are distributing $25,286 for SMART grant projects this school year at Hoover, McKinley, North Star, Orion, and Roosevelt schools, and the District.

Projects include a range of iPad pilot projects that use tablet-based technology in the classroom for research, project-based learning, and collaborative writing activities, as well as preparing teachers for the new California Common Core Standards.

We greatly appreciate the hard work of everyone who prepared a SMART grant proposal. Choosing among the many excellent applications was a challenging task. We hope with additional funding in the future to add more schools to our acceptance list. We continue to be grateful to Oracle for their support through all four years of the SMART grant program.

A Gift of a Life

We are honored, although at the same time saddened, to be the recipient of donations in memory of George Sliter, a friend of many in our community, including the RCEF.

George was
passionate about sharing his love of math and his belief in learning through play with our RCSD students. He also organized an interfaith Songfest through the UUFRC Church, where he was a member, which benefited the RCEF, and marshaled at this year's OktobeRun.

Donations received in George's memory directly support music, math, science, and technology programs in our schools. His family also requests that people honor George's commitment to creating a better community by volunteering a few hours in a way that enriches their community.

We are deeply grateful to George for making room in his life to give our children the gift of learning.
