60th Edition

Introducing: Jay Walking at the Homestead! Winter recreation... think John Jay Homestead! Starting in December, take a brisk hike along our newly expanded 1.6 mile perimeter trail. The Jay Walk weaves through woodlands and meadows studded with magnificent old trees and brings you to gentle, easily accessible elevations that reveal scenic views of Bedford. A snowy day? Bring your cross country skis and snow shoes and let the 62 verdant acres become your winter refuge. We invite you to experience John Jay Homestead's natural park setting and rural beauty. Of course, return for walks in Spring, Summer and Fall to see how Mother Nature transforms it. Park in the Lower Lot and follow the "Jay" trail markers.

An Evening with Myron Magnet
The Founders at Home: The Building of America, 1735 - 1817
Friday, December 6, 2013
6:15 pm Reception 7:00 pm Presentation
We are pleased to be welcoming Myron Magnet,
editor of City Journal from 1994-2006 and currently its editor-at-large.
A winner of the National Humanities Medal and a former member of the board of editors of Fortune magazine, Magnet has also written for Commentary, The Wall Street Journal, National Review, the American Spectator, The New York Times, and other publications. He has appeared on numerous television and radio programs. City Journal is a publication of the Manhattan Institute.
The Founders at Home offers lively biographies of several iconic Founders, and explores the connection between their homes and domestic lives, and the country they were building. "Because they were trying to create a new nation where Americans would be truly at home, the houses they themselves inhabited... offer a vivid glimpse... into the ideal of life they imagined for themselves and for their countrymen." In addition to John Jay, Magnet's Founders include George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, New Jersey Governor William Livingston, and the Lees of Virginia.
