Do Re Mi Farms

Owner: John Pahucki

Incorporated in 1979, Do Re Me Farms is a third generation Hudson Valley family farm located in Goshen, NY.  The farm is in the famed "black dirt" region of Orange County, NY. T he area takes its name from the dark, extremely fertile soil left over from an ancient glacial lake bottom augmented by decades of past flooding of the Walkill River. The 26,000 acres of deep muck left over is the largest concentration of such soil in the United States outside the Florida Everglades. Originally specializing in the wholesale production of root crops, the farm now provides fresh vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms to a number of Farmer's and Green Markets around the Hudson Valley in Rockland and Westchester counties, as well as markets around the New York metropolitan area.

Ladle of Love

Owner: Leslie Lampert

Ladle of Love, a farm-to-kitchen food shop in Mt. Kisco, started to simmer in the mind of Leslie Lampert during the tragedy of September 11, 2001. When Leslie was bringing soups to local firefighters in Millwood, who were pressed into service at Ground Zero, she knew she was delivering nutritional sustenance. As Senior Editor of Ladies' Home Journal Magazine for ten years, Leslie produced and wrote the food features and spent many hours in the test kitchen helping to develop recipes. Word soon spread that her robust soups and stews were the perfect, delicious, soothing, savory meals. She began making soup gift baskets from her home and shipping them all over the country. In 2003, Leslie launched the tiny flagship store that is literally an open, Paris-style kitchen serving authentic, handmade soups, stews, salads and paninis. Today, Ladle of Love is a thriving, award-winning food shop that serves up gourmet take-out food, offers a full catering menu, and with its Love On the Run can now deliver Ladle's food. In 2008, Leslie opened Cafe of Love, a farm-to-table bistro featuring the freshest ingredients from local farmers. The Love group's newest venture is Leslie Lampert Affairs at The Hammond Museum and they take their vows very seriously. When you say "I do," so do they--and promise a wedding celebration filled with love on many levels. From the beautifully choreographed ceremony in the bucolic Japanese Stroll Garden to their award-winning farm-to-table food, LLA synchronizes a flawless experience for you and your betrothed that is at once both intimate and elegant. Lampert has always been community minded and supports local charities each month with a portion of Ladle's proceeds. For the complete story visit: www.ladleoflove.com

Deb Taft has been farming in Westchester County for eight years after completing a year-long internship in beekeeping and biodynamic agriculture at the Pfeiffer Center in Rockland County. For the past four years, Deb and her partner, Paul Williams, have been growing on one acre in Waccabuc and added a second field of one acre in Katonah this year. The farm has developed a reputation for growing six excellent kale varieties, as well as a full range of vegetables, including specialties like Mexican Gherkins and Jerusalem Artichokes.
