Katherine Bescherer

Katherine Bescherer

9:00 am - 10:30 am

Katherine Bescherer is an accomplished singer-songwriter and music teacher, and a resident of Katonah, where she and her family recently moved. With a Bachelor's from NYU and a Master's from Columbia, Bescherer has been sharing her love of music as a music teacher since '93. She has been the vocal and general music teacher at Heathcote Elementary School in Scarsdale since 1997. She frequently integrates her expertise as a songwriter into her classroom where she and her students have written numerous songs including the Heathcote School Song. Everyone can identify with something in her songs while simultaneously being struck by the artistry of her performance. Her music is reflective, often jubilant, and at other times, whimsical.

The Flaming Meatballs

11:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Flaming Meatballs are two brothers and a girl that love the blues!  George (13)  has been playing guitar for over 7 years. John (11) has been playing drums for over 5 years. Leah Nikolaya (13) joined the group in May 2013 and has brought powerful vocals, original songs and solid bass playing to the band.

They just recently were the opening act at 12 Grapes Music and Wine Bar during the Peekskill Jazz and Blues Festival. Here's part of what the owner of 12 Grapes had to say about The Flaming Meatballs after their performance: ..."with talent well beyond their years, you can't help but feel good watching these kids play and sing. The band is tight, the kids are confident and poised, their vocals and musicianship astounding. If you ever get a chance to see this band, do not miss it."

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has proclaimed the week of August 4-10, National Farmer's Market Week...so how about kick starting the celebration this Saturday, August 3rd? Come celebrate the benefits of shopping at a farmer's market by supporting the sustainability of our family farms, helping to bring our community together and by continuing to foster the special relationships developed with our local farmers and vendors, all while ensuring that your family gets the freshest local produce available!

Here's a sample of what our local vendors will have this week:

Featured vendor Table of Condiments will have Candied Pecans and Savory Mixed Nuts (made with their own habanero hot sauce), Green Tomato Relish and Peach Compote. Enjoy a sample, get recipes and learn how to pair them with other ingredients. Last week I picked up a couple of Pork Chops from John Boys Farm and a jar of Peach Compote...a little bit of heaven! Come by and stock up on your favorite as supplies are limited and you won't see them again until September.

Amba Farm will be bringing summer favorites, organically grown a few miles from the market, with nutrient dense practices: wide variety of summer squashes, both bush and pole beans (green & yellow), several varieties of cucumbers, basil and other herbs, amazing berries, carrots, golden and red beets, okra and check out their new fruit desserts made with products they have harvested!

Do Re Me Farms will return this week with fresh Ginger, Hot Peppers, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cippolinis, New Onions (red/yellow), Fingerling potatoes, Peaches and a whole lot more.

JD Farms will have some early Ginger Gold apples and plums this week as well as cucumbers, tomatoes and corn.

We have a Guest vendor this week, Hope Soap. Young entrepreneur, Jordan DeJong will bring his hand-crafted artisan soap to the market. Part of the sale of his soaps will be donated to F.A.C.E.S (find a cure for epilepsy and seizures), a charity close to his heart.

"Joe Fish" DiMauro of Mt. Kisco Seafood will have great fresh Swordfish and Tuna...wonderful on the BBQ. Cooked Maine Lobsters for $17 and Large Shrimp ready to sauté...whether it be a scampi or coconut shrimp dish you simply can't go wrong!

If you are entertaining, there's nothing better than a beautifully prepared cheese platter. Audrey of  Plum Plums Cheese will put together an order and have it waiting for you at the market this week. Audrey can assist you in choosing just the right cheeses and help you pair them with fruit, nuts, honey...she's full of ideas so start the dialogue and simply send your order via email to plumplumscheese@verizon.net. Here's a sampling of what she'll have this week: Cabot Clothbound Cheddar, Prima Donna, Cato Corner Hooligan, Middlebury Blue, 4-year Gouda and a variety of Chevres such as herbs, chives or wasabi.

Amrita Health Foods will be bringing samples of their bars designed for active kids. They are gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, soy-free, non-GMO, no added colors, preservatives or synthetic vitamins. The bars are made in small batches with locally sourced ingredients, have tons of fiber, healthy fats and easily digestible proteins to keep kids on the go...well happy!

This week, Ladle of Love will be selling Basil Hummus, it's not your run-of-the-mill hummus, it has tons of garlic and basil to give it a fresh kick! It will be $5/cup and $7/pt.

Have you tried Wave Hill Bread's Caramelized Garlic Loaf? Try making a sandwich with marinated flank steak or London broil...it's amazing!

Wild Virginia needs your help this week! Sure they will be bringing their Fig Balsamic Vinaigrette and Miso Sesame dressing/marinades, but they need some good ol' fashion feedback on a new flavor they are developing...come for a taste and try to guess what it is!

We have two musical performances this Saturday. From 9-10:30 am come welcome Katherine Bescherer to the community and from 11-1:00 pm market favorite The Flaming Meatballs return...don't miss these incredible local talents!
