 Tea Label

Om Champagne Tea Kombucha

Owner: James Hibler

Om Champagne Tea Kombucha is a non-alcoholic, probiotic and gluten-free drink whose origins date back two thousand years. James Hibler of Pound Ridge brews, cultures and bottles each batch of this ancient elixir which is named after the Korean physician, Dr. Kombu, who cured the ailing Japanese emperor with his special tea or cha. Champagne Tea is naturally effervescent like, well, champagne! James brews using only Organic black teas in Pure Water, adds Organic Vegan Cane Sugar, which is the primary food for the Kombucha Culture. Each meticulously cultured Kombucha creates 20+ enzymes, rich in beneficial acids, nutrients and probiotics. Probiotics repopulate the gut flora and are especially important for those who have taken antibiotics, or just want to improve their digestion and jump start their metabolism. The ingredients are few, but the taste is complex which is why he says: "There is no taste like Om!"

This week they debut their tried and true Farmer's Market favorites: Organic Hawaiian Ginger, 6 Year Old Korean Red Ginseng, Organic Turmeric Root, Organic Vanilla Creme, Orange Blossom Mimosas and the Original Organic Champagne Tea. So for some thirst quenching infusions head over to their stand and hydrate probiotically!

Red Barn Bakery Sandwiches

Owner: Randell Dodge

Baker extraordinaire Randell, greatly inspired by her Italian heritage, began baking at age 12. She continued baking for her family and as a designer/owner of high-end handbags used to bring her cookies to the trade shows where buyers went crazy for them. They told her, "You should be selling cookies!" In 2008, that dream became a reality when she turned her red barn in Bedford into a kitchen! She began by using local ingredients in her savory tarts which she then sold at farmer's markets and local restaurants. Looking for a home base to expand her business, Randell found the perfect place in Irvington. Red Barn's 100% organic baked goods, some of which are gluten-free, now include seasonal pies, cakes, galettes, cookies as well as tarts all made with the freshest of local ingredients.

New baked items this week include, organic gluten-free berry loaf cakes, organic strawberry apple crumb pie and sandwiches...that's right...check out that gorgeous  Kale, goat & tomato on an olive mini baguette...almost too good to eat!

FEATURED NON-PROFIT

dog SPCA of Westchester

The SPCA of Westchester was founded in 1883 by Ossining resident, Mary Dusenberry. She had observed horses being mercilessly whipped and beaten, as they trudged up nearby hills to deliver heavy loads of coal. Together with caring friends, she obtained land on which to build the Society's first home and established a fund to be used to prevent cruelty to animals. The SPCA is still located on the same spot, making it one of the oldest landholders in Briarcliff Manor.

Originally, the SPCA of Westchester was affiliated with the ASPCA of New York City, but became an independent organization in the 1920s. Today it is the only humane society in Westchester County empowered to enforce laws relating to animal cruelty. Despite this, the SPCA gets no federal, state, or county funds. So they rely solely on the financial support of people who care about the welfare of animals. If you care about animals, they need your help!

Come stop by and say hello to Baby this Saturday! He is just one of the over 150 animals the SPCA has that are currently up for adoption! He was surrendered to them by his family who could no longer afford to keep him. He is a pure-bred Papillion and is about 8 years old. Truly the sweetest, calmest little guy and loves everyone!
