Live Music, Arts & Crafts, Boots and More at Bootfest 2014!

Mark your calendar for Victoria's biggest FREE festival, Bootfest, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 4 in downtown Victoria.
Honoring our region's rich ranching heritage and celebrating all things boots, Bootfest 2014 will feature live music with two stages showcasing Texas Country and Tejano music recording artists, as well as a variety of other national and regional favorites playing country, folk, Tejano, classic rock & roll, blues and more.
Friday night's music line-up on the Coors Light Main Stage includes Los Amigos ASG, William Clark Green and the Casey Donahew Band.
On Saturday, local musicians and bands will be playing in the DeLeon Plaza Gazebo, including the Aprill Hall Band, The Rackit!, Jerry James, Mason Lively and the Southern Drive Band.
Saturday evening's entertainment on the Coors Light Main Stage will be La Fiebre, Cody Johnson and Aaron Watson. A fireworks show will immediately follow the concerts.
The kids will love the large Kids' Corral with a wide variety of games, inflatables and performances to entertain all ages. Shop till you drop with the 60 arts & crafts vendors and enjoy all kinds of tasty festival treats with 20 food vendors. Boot makers and leather artisans will display their craft and fit festival-goers for custom made boots. Compete in the washer pitching tournament, check out classic rides at the car and truck show, and be sure to stick around for the incredible fireworks display on Saturday night!

Apply Today for Civilian Fire Academy

Applications are being accepted now for the Civilian Fire Academy Class #8. If you have ever wondered how your Fire Department operates, what it's like to be a firefighter or paramedic, or maybe just want to be more involved with your City, this FREE class is for you.
The Academy will be held every Monday evening from Oct. 6 through Dec. 1, 2014 (excluding Thanksgiving week) from 6-9:30 pm at the Victoria Fire Station No. 1, located at 606 E. Goodwin. Some sessions will also be held at the Fire Training Facility located on SW Ben Jordan Street.
The only requirement is that participants must be at least 18 years old and reside in Victoria County. Class size is limited to 15 participants.
The Fire Academy is designed to educate participants about the daily operations of the fire department through a series of classroom and hands-on trainings. Sessions will focus on the nature of firefighting along with the hazards and rewards that firefighting encompasses.
The classes will include demonstrations on a variety of topics, including fire communications, incident command, apparatus, vehicle extrication, emergency medical services, fire prevention, search and rescue demonstration, EMS overview, CPR, high angle/rappelling, hazardous materials and protective clothing, and much more.

National Night Out to Kick-Off with Party
| The Victoria Police Department invites the community to the Annual National Night Out Kick-Off Party on Saturday, Sept. 27 from noon to 3 pm at the Victoria Mall. There will be booths and live entertainment from various community groups.
Businesses and organizations who would like a booth space can call 485-3808.
The party is held each year to create awareness and encourage neighborhood participation on National Night Out. National Night Out is held in neighborhoods all over the country to heighten community awareness about drug and crime prevention programs, and to strengthen police-community relations. This year's National Night Out will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014. Now is the time to network with your neighbors and help plan activities and locations for National Night Out block parties and festivities. If you've had a party in the past, we hope you participate again this year. If this is your first year to participate, the Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit is available to help make your neighborhood block party a success. The deadline to register your neighborhood block party is Wednesday, Sept. 19 by 5 pm. Please call the Crime Prevention office at 361-485-3808 to register and assure local police officers, firefighters and City officials stop by your party on National Night Out. |

CHILDREN and TEENS
Baby Time - Mondays at 2 pm and Tuesdays at 10 am
Baby Time is for the enjoyment of babies up to the age of 2. Lap play, songs, flannel boards and interactive reading to engage caregivers and babies.
Toddler Story Time - Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10:30 am, and Thursdays at 9:30 am
Stories, repetitive songs, simple crafts and finger plays to encourage early language development for ages 2-3.
Story Time - Wednesdays at 2 pm and Thursdays at 10:30 am
Stories, music, games and simple crafts for ages 4-5.
Movie @ VPL - Sept. 27, 10 am-noon. This month's feature presentation is "The Lego Movie."
ALL AGES
Family Gaming - Sept. 15, 4:30-6:30 pm
Hang out with other kids, teens and families for an afternoon of classic board games and video games. This program is come and go.
COMPUTER CLASSES
We offer three kinds of technology programs on an ongoing basis: Tech Basics, Tech Labs and Tech Extras. Classes range from beginner to advanced courses and are taught at Workforce Solutions of the Golden Crescent Computer Lab and the Victoria Public Library. Tech Labs are available on Wednesdays at the Library from 9-11 am. These labs include:

Free Computer Classes - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 am

A park & ride shuttle service will be available from the Patti Dodson Health Center and Riverside Stadium on Friday, Oct. 3 from 5:30 pm-12:30 am, and from 9:45 am to 12:30 am on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Call Albert Landscaping Donates Services to City
|
The City of Victoria would like to extend thanks and appreciation to Call Albert Landscaping for donating their time and services to cut down and remove two dead, rotting trees at Will Rogers Park last month. Albert Pena and his crew spent two days cutting down the trees, cleaning up shrubs and removing brush to help beautify the park.
