Get up and move
These days, adults are spending more time at work than ever before. An unfortunate side effect is that, as a nation, we're becoming more inactive. This is a problem when you consider that physical inactivity doubles the risk of heart disease. But take heart! It's a problem you can help fix by encouraging your coworkers to take part in the American Heart Association's National Walking Day.
On this day, Americans are encouraged to lace up their sneakers and take at least 30 minutes out of their day to get up and walk. It's a great way to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and to get your family, friends and co-workers started on a healthier way of life. Join us April 2nd for National Walking Day!
April is Stress and Resiliency Month
Stress is just a fact of life. Stressors are all around us and at times can make us feel overworked and overwhelmed. Studies show that many individuals drink in response to stress. To spread the word and prevent alcohol abuse, Moda Health is joining other organizations across the country to honor Alcohol Awareness Month to prevent alcohol abuse in our community.
If you are drinking too much, you can improve your health by cutting back or quitting. Keep track of how much you drink, avoid places where overdrinking occurs and find new ways to deal with stress. Drinking too much alcohol can lead to health problems, including alcohol poisoning, hangovers and an increased risk of heart disease. Take this time to change your response to life's stressors and build resilience to cope with stressful times.
