Mark your calendars

Fall is bittersweet. Hot days give way to cool, overcast skies. It's a bummer, and yet... it's also the perfect time of year to get outside for a walk or run. This fall you'll have a few ways to do just that-and support powerful causes, too.

The first such event is just around the corner! Check out the schedule below. If you participate, you'll not only feed your need for fitness, you'll also help a variety of organizations fight tough diseases - like breast cancer, diabetes, leukemia, heart disease and arthritis!

Better health is in your hands!

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

The number of obese children has tripled since the 1970s and one third of our nation's children are overweight or obese. In an effort to combat childhood obesity, President Obama has named September National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.

We Can!, created by National Institutes of Health, is a national movement designed to give parents, caregivers and entire communities a way to help children ages 8 to 13 stay at a healthy weight through improved food choices, increased physical activity and reduced screen time. This free program offers resources and tools to parents and caregivers; including shopping, cooking tips, recipes and ideas for family-friendly exercise. We Can! also uses Go, Slow, Whoa; a child-friendly way to teach children about foods they should each every day, foods to eat sometimes and foods to eat occasionally.
