KLMP Monthly News - February 2014

From Katie Goings

Dear KLMP Listeners,

I haven't pictured myself saying this since I started working at  Bethesda Christian Broadcasting 5 years ago but, I am leaving. God has called my family and I to venture out-of-state. And while it is a sad loss in my life, God certainly has comforted me with the relief that my friend and colleague Julie Norwood will be taking over in my stead. Not only is she a wonderful on-air personality but her passion for God's Ministry is so evident in her character.

I take comfort in the wonderful memories I have of my years at KLMP and the work we have accomplished for Christ. And many of my blessed moments have been shared with YOU. Whether it was meeting you at Hills Alive or praying with you on-air, recording PSAs with you and laughing through the outtakes! Or working alongside you at concerts, in the office or with Christmas Wish. Thank you for blessing me in such wonderful ways, I will miss YOU. God's blessings to you all!

With Affection, Katie Goings

My Golden Valentine

Again this year, with your help, we can bless the senior citizens of the 5 state region with Valentines.  Showing those that are or feel forgotten the love of Jesus Christ can be done in very simple ways. Would you consider making or buying a Valentine this coming year and bringing it to the station or a drop off point by Feb 7th? Write "To My Golden Valentine" somewhere on the card.  You may incorporate scripture, a nice picture, just get creative!  We will be sure it gets to folks in assisted living centers, nursing homes and senior centers by Valentine's Day. We also have drop off points in Pierre, Sturgis, Lead, Gillette, Dickinson, Spearfish, Chadron, and Belle Fourche! Please visit our website for more information www.klmp.com. You can also call Jamie Knapp at the station with any questions or if you would like to volunteer to help out.

The REAL St Valentine Story

Every year around this time couples start looking for gifts to show their affections for one another; flowers, jewelry, exquisite food and more all for the sake of "Valentine's Day". Let's look at the legend behind St Valentine's Day. Father Frank O'Gara of Whitefriars Street Church in Dunlin explains the man who was St Valentine:

"He was a Roman Priest at a time when there was an Emperor called Claudius who persecuted the church at that particular time. Claudius also had an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people. This was based on the hypothesis that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them or their wives or families if they died.

The idea of encouraging them (young couples) to marry in the Christian Church was what Valentine was about. And he secretly married them because of the edict."

Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies against command of Emperor Claudius the second. There are legends surrounding Valentine's actions while in prison.

A man who died for upholding the institution of marriage and to bring young people into the church. For the full story and for further information on St Valentine's times in prison, visit CBN's website:
