Picnic and Pick-Up Paddle for the Rivers on Thursday, August 4
brown_kayak.jpg Bring a picnic, your own kayak or paddle-able boat, or use one of their tandem or solo kayaks for a sociable evening paddle on the West River. It's free, but you need to make a reservation in advance. A suggested $10 donation would go a long way toward the Riverkeeper's efforts to keep these rivers swimmable, fishable, crabable and kayakable, but even if you don't want to dip into your wallet, we'd still like you to dip a paddle in the river.

The West & Rhode Riverkeeper, in partnership with Discovery Village, will offer free kayaking on Thursday, August 4 and August 18. They will begin at 6:00 p.m. and wrap it up 30 minutes before sunset. Picnicking is welcome, as long as you vacate the campus by sunset.

Kayaks, paddles, and life vests will be provided. Both single and tandem kayaks are available. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. To reserve your spot, email Jeff at jeff@westrhoderiverkeeper.org or call 410-867-7171. In the event of inclement weather, kayaking will be canceled and that news will be posted on the West/Rhode Riverkeeper's website
Final Lecture in Charles Carroll House Speaker Series with Father Robert Wojtek
On Thursday, August 4 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Charles Carroll House of Annapolis, at 107 Duke of Gloucester Street, welcomes Father Robert Wojtek, CSsR, as he gives a talk on "El Camino de Santiago." Father Wojtek will speak about his journey on the El Camino de Santiago, and share his first-hand experiences. The pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain is an ancient pilgrim route that stretches across Europe and ends in north-west Spain. Yearly, hundreds of thousands of people of various backgrounds walk the Camino de Santiago either on their own or in organized groups.

Father Robert Wojtek, a Baltimore native, was ordained as a priest in 1981 and sent to Puerto Rico for his first assignment, starting a life of ministering to Spanish speaking communities. A member of the Redemptorist order, Father Wojtek studied in Spain and worked in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and New York before returning to Baltimore in 2005. He is now in Annapolis serving at St. Mary's.
Seating is limited and there is a $10 donation at the door.
