This March, please help us ensure that homes in Cekal Village, Indonesia, are safe during earthquakes.

In 2012, Rabaini's new house was completed. In July 2013, a major earthquake destroyed it. For eight months, Rabaini and her four children have been living in a makeshift shelter where their kitchen used to be. Most of the houses in Cekal collapsed completely. No one in the area knew how to build homes which could survive earthquakes.

Rabaini and her neighbors need training from Build Change so they can learn how to rebuild houses which will keep them safe during earthquakes.

How can you help?

We are taking part in the GlobalGiving March Open Challenge. Our goal is to raise $5,000 from at least 40 donors before March 31. Please help Rabaini and Cekal Village become safe with a donation today.

Your donation enables this community to learn how to rebuild safe, earthquake-resistant homes.

  • $10 gives booklets on safe construction to 4 families.

  • $25 provides a planning session to a family to lay out a safe floor plan for their home.

  • $50 pays for a day of training for a brickmaker to learn to make stronger bricks.

Your donation of $10, $25, or even $50 will change lives

With your help, Rabaini and Cekal Village will never have to fear earthquakes or rebuild their homes again.

The skills we teach are permanent and the building materials are available locally. Our recommended modifications to commonly used house designs are small and low-cost. The changes are widely adopted because they are simple, affordable and use familiar materials. This acceptance leads to permanent change in local construction practice.

Cekal Village residents will have the knowledge and materials they need to build earthquake-safe homes, now and in the future.
