The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Fundraiser held at Grace this past Tuesday evening was great fun.   Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make it a success.

We even had an early morning live TV interview with Dannika Lewis from WISC TV Channel 3000 to help spread the word about the work of the Grace Food Pantry and the history of pancake racing.   Click here to watch the on-air action and see who won the race!

image Singing Roosters Needed

One small way we can make a big difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters in Haiti is through the purchase of Singing Rooster coffee.  Three to four parishioners are needed to join Susan Webster, primarily during coffee hour, at the Singing Rooster Table to provide the opportunity for members and friends of Grace to purchase this wonderful product. You can sign up for 1-4 Sundays a month, and we can sub for each other when needed.

Let's Talk
Coffee Hour Forum
Here's a new opportunity to better know your sisters and brothers in Christ at Grace Church:  a Let's Talk Coffee Hour Forum! This is a wonderful chance to connect with someone new, or someone you've known for many years. The format of Let's Talk! is 2, 15-minute sessions, where you have a conversation with another person. It's as simple as that! But these conversations are more than talk about the weather.  This is a chance to find out what inspires people, why they get out of bed in the morning, and what they love about life. Our goal is to reach 100 conversations total.

There will be 3 sessions of Let's Talk during Lent: February 24th, March 3rd, and March 10th.
Join in the conversation!

Lenten Learning Opportunity

Perhaps your Lenten journey this year could include learning more about the ministry of healing. The Healing Prayer Group offers an opportunity to do this on Sunday, February 24, when we will discuss the ways Jesus healed. It is because healing was such a central part of his ministry that Christians ever since have offered prayers for healing in Jesus' name. Join us in the AA room at 11:45 for a lively interchange. To find the AA room, go to the reception area outside the Guild Hall and look for the signs leading you upstairs.

Newcomers Class To Begin
Newcomers class begins on February 24th between the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services, continuing until March 17th.  Explore the Episcopal faith tradition.  Meet upstairs in the staff office reception area.

Estate Sale Volunteers Needed  Two classic Grace Church Estate Sales are planned back to back this spring.  Both are full of intriguing items, the first one featuring Victorian furniture, a large variety of artwork and costume jewelry, plus many treasured pieces offered to us on consignment.

If you have never worked an estate sale, you can anticipate a laid-back atmosphere where you do useful work for the church, really get to know fellow parishioners, and learn stuff you never thought you'd know.  No experience is required-you learn on the job.

We also could use some help with collecting and delivering consigned items (mostly smalls packed in boxes) from our storage locker on Mineral Point Road and from the church basement to the sale house.  If you have a van or an empty car and are able to help with this, please let Francine know.  We will work with you to complete this important task at a mutually convenient time.

The first sale is Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6 at 1910 Elka Lane (near junction of N. Sherman and Northport Dr.) on the east side Madison.  Pricing begins Wednesday, February 20, and will continue Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. until the sale. We need all the volunteers we can get, so sign up by contacting Francine Hartman (e-mail: fmhartman@mac.com or 241-3039) right away .  I promise you it is time well spent.

Plans for second sale (probably at the end of April or beginning of May) will be revealed as soon as they are concrete.

Feed the Students!
Over the past year, Grace has hosted the St. Francis House Campus Ministry on Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. while their campus has been under construction. Each service ends with a meal. If you would like to help provide a meal for the students attending this service, please follow this Doodle Calendar link to find out what dates are available and claim your date:  http://www.doodle.com/hqeegt3tfgk8pw9a.

Questions about the meals? Please contact Elizabeth Miller: stfrancisuw@gmail.com.

Master Plan News
At the last Master Plan User Group Meeting held on February 6, draft floor plans were presented. These plans were based upon parish feedback given to the Kubala Washatko architects through user group input sessions and the Annual Meeting. It is now time for user group leaders to take these plans back to their groups for discussion, so that any feedback can be returned to the architects in time for the next Master Plan User Group Meeting to be held on March 20.

If you have not seen the plans and would like to, members of the Master Plan Steering Committee will be available in the Guild Hall on February 24th and March 3 between the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. service and the 10 a.m. and noon service.  Plans can be seen at other times convenient to you by contacting the church office.

The Master Plan Steering Committee would like to deliver any feedback on the first draft of the master plan to the architects by Friday, March 8.

Feedback can be given orally to members of the Master Plan Steering Committee, via written correspondence to the church office,
(for the attention of Jonathan Grieser), or via e-mail.

On March 9th from 9 a.m. to Noon, Grace Episcopal Church will be offering Safe
Guarding God's Children Training. This program is a requirement by the Diocese for anyone who is an employee or volunteer within the church. But it is more important than just a requirement; it is a helpful and informational session that helps protect our youth and our churches.

Presiding Bishop hosts online forum:
Human Trafficking: A Churchwide Conversation
Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori will host an hour-long exploration into the church's work in Human Trafficking on Wednesday, March 6.

Human Trafficking: A Churchwide Conversation will originate from the Chapel of Christ the Lord in the Church Center in New York City beginning at 2 pm Eastern, 1 pm Central, noon Mountain, 11 am Pacific, 10 am Alaska, 9 am Hawaii, 8 pm Europe, 3 am Thursday Taiwan.

"The focus of this forum is to uncover this ubiquitous issue in our midst and to share the ministries of the church devoted to human trafficking," Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori stated.

"Human Trafficking is a worldwide issue and the second largest criminal industry in the world," explained Lynnaia Main, Episcopal Church Officer for Global Relations. "Often, the faces of human trafficking victims are in plain sight without the public knowing or seeing."

The 2013 priority theme of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is the elimination and prevention of violence against women and girls.

Registration for this session is required.  Click here to learn more about the program and registration.
