Access to books is essential to reading development, yet many children from low-income families do not have quality books at home or in the childcare centers they attend. In many cases, the ratio is a staggering 1 age-appropriate book for every 300 children.
Ready, Set, READ! is a program supported by the United Way Women's Leadership Initiative in Atlantic and Cape May Counties where volunteers visit pre-school classrooms and read to children. Children are then provided with a copy of the book to take home and share with their caregivers.
This year, honor Dad (or a guy you love) by providing a classroom of young learners with the the gift of a good book. By supporting Ready, Set READ! you help to increase early literacy rates in Atlantic County and better prepare children to enter kindergarten. A personalized card will be sent to the person you wish to recognize as acknowledgement of your gift.
