International Quarterly

Class of 2012

Welcome from President Stan Smith

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the third edition of IQ, the International Quarterly of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum - currently being distributed to readers on every continent. The goal of this newsletter is to create a dialogue with our many friends, tennis fans, and supporters overseas. New readers have joined our mailing list after each IQ has been issued, something that we appreciate as a sign of success and interest.

When you read this third edition you will enjoy special moments from our 2012 Induction Ceremony, held in July with Jennifer, Guga, Manuel, Mike, and Randy's family. Representing the United States, Brazil, Spain, and Wales, each of the inductees were given a warm welcome to the Hall of Fame by thousands of fans in Newport and through a television broadcast to more than 40 countries.

As we have done in prior issues we encourage you to communicate with us with any ideas you might have for future issues or other feedback. If you're heading to the US Open this week or next, we invite you to visit our museum gallery, located in next to the US Open bookstore in the Chase Center. For the duration of the event, we will display a special museum exhibit called, Tennis and the Olympics. And, of course, you have always our open invitation to tour the museum or play on the grass courts at the Hall of Fame in Newport. If I am around, I may even hit a few balls with you - just for fun!

Sincerely,

Stan Smith

"I wasn't sure this day would ever come and whether I would have the chance to take my place on center court again. It's been eight years too long. This is not an end, but it is a reflection and a capturing moment. It is a new beginning and a transition. A new beginning that is going to allow me to use all that I accomplished on and off the court to inspire and help everyone to believe in themselves, love themselves, and be true to themselves."

I also dreamed to be inducted to the Hall of Fame. Thanks to you, today I can say that this dream is true. Thank you very much."  Click here to read more...

"Thank you all at the Hall of Fame for keeping our sport alive through our history, which hopefully we all can learn from. I will close by accepting this award on behalf of all those professional players who were banned from playing Grand Slams for so many years but were so instrumental in bringing about open tennis to our sport." Click to read more...

Randy SnowRandy Snow, a three sport Paralympic medalist and 22-time major champion in wheelchair tennis, became the second wheelchair inductee to the Hall of Fame with his posthumous induction.
