>Cascade Apartments,in Holland Township, formally began Asset Based Community Development work as a Neighborhood Connections site in March.
>Excitement in the community is growing as residents and community partners - such as Crosswinds and Grace Churches and KMG Prestige Management Co. - brainstormed ideas to
improve community life in Cascade Apartments and the surrounding neighborhood.
>Shelly Gonzales, Apartment Manager, credits Good Samaritan Ministries as an important stakeholder in Cascade for their role providing structure, funding, leadership and training to residents as they work to improve their quality of life.
>"I was trying to do this on my own - trying to help [residents] help themselves," says Shelly, "But now , with Neighborhood Connections, we can ask residents - 'how would you solve this problem?' And one day, residents could form committees and lead on their own." |
