Welcome to new SMAMS Executive Director Meaghan Overton
New SMAMS Executive Director Meaghan Overton

(From Dan)
I have the pleasure of introducing you to SMAMS' new executive director, Meaghan Overton.  Meaghan is a Dorchester resident with a Masters in Urban Planning & Public Policy from Tufts University - a great background for a Main Streets director.  She also was a big help to SMAMS last year in doing a market research survey at our farmers' market.

I've also had the pleasure and honor of working with many truly amazing people during my time at SMAMS.  The list could go on endlessly, so unfortunately I won't be able to thank everyone by name, but you know who you are - residents, merchants, elected officials, public safety officers, city and state government staff, and SMAMS' many volunteers on our board and committees - thank you all!

The changes that have taken place in our neighborhood over the past 13 years - a new Ashmont Station, the Carruth Building, the Peabody Square renovations, many new businesses, and renovations to existing shops - are a testament to what people can do when they work together.  I'm sure that progress will continue, and so I'll put in one last call for volunteers - All are welcome!

Thank you again.  I'm looking forward to much great news from SMAMS with Meaghan at the helm.

(From Meaghan) Many thanks to Dan, all of the volunteers and board members at SMAMS, and the business owners, residents, and community members who have welcomed me so warmly into the Executive Director position. I look forward to working with all of you to build on our previous accomplishments and develop a new vision for the future of the SMAMS District! If you have ideas, questions, or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. And if you'd like to volunteer, make a donation, or serve on a SMAMS committee, I would love to talk with you about how you can get involved! Thanks again for the incredibly warm welcome. I hope to see many of you at the SMAMS send-off for Dan on Tuesday, August 27 (6-8pm) at Tavolo. See you around the neighborhood soon!

"City Hall To Go" Truck Returns to Ashmont Station  Wed. 8/28

The response to the City of Boston's "City Hall to Go" truck last month was overwhelming!  The truck will return Wednesday, Aug. 28, 4-7 PM, in front of Flat Black at Ashmont Station.

The truck features a wide range of City services, without the need for a trip downtown.  For the "menu," please click here.

Thanks to truck staffers Liz Bates and Hanania Joseph, and to Elizabeth Rios, Chris English, and Justin Holmes in the Mayor's Office for setup.
