  Main Street Awards June 20

BMS Awards 06-20-13

Please join SMAMS and Main Street districts from all over the City  Thursday, June 20 at the Strand Theatre, 543 Columbia Road, Dorchester,  for the annual Main Street Awards!  Networking 6-7 p.m., awards 7 p.m.

We will be honoring each district's 2012  business and volunteer of the year.

SMAMS volunteer awardee Mike Soucy (at left in photo below) creates the "look" that makes SMAMS events memorable. Thanks to Mike's design and craftsmanship skills, our Dorchester Day Parade float features a   hand-made, seven-foot-tall, fully functioning replica of the historic Peabody Square Clock. Thanks to his design and event-planning skills, our recent "Oscars on the Avenue" fundraiser included a double-screen slide show, laser show, window dressing and custom promotional buttons. Mike throws himself wholeheartedly into making SMAMS events stand out.

Business honoree Tavolo Ristorante is an anchor business tenant in the Carruth Building, a commercial/residential building that replaced a blighted vacant lot in front of Ashmont Station. Tavolo is a community center as well as a first-rate restaurant, hosting community meetings and charity fundraisers. Co-owner Chris Douglass has served on the board of St. Mark's Area Main Street and with Friends of Peabody Square, which works to preserve the beauty and historic character of the neighborhood's main intersection.
