Winter Newsletter 2015
A Message From Your
ACHE of Massachusetts President

Dear Colleagues,

The Board of the Massachusetts Chapter of ACHE has been active this winter developing a new 3 year strategic plan while still maintaining all the usual activities related to programs, the higher education network and new partnerships planned for later this year. We are enthused by the growing membership now at 1,080 members, and increased participation at networking events and attendance at programs. 170 (7%) of our member have attained the FACHE credential.

Although these metrics are important, they do not entirely reflect our reason for existing. We know that professionals who join ACHE recognize the importance of ongoing guidance and the diverse relationships. To that end, we are developing a new strategic plan that we hope will be inspirational,  credible and measurable. Though it is not quite complete I would like to share the new vision statements:

Membership Growth and Engagement: We will better define the value of ACHE membership, attracting a diverse membership group and include activities to engage each of our constituencies.

Convener Role: We will be a joining force among healthcare related organizations in Massachusetts for education, networking and integration across diverse silos convening thought leaders to identify and address trends, issues and opportunities that will drive need for transformative change to improve quality, reduce costs and expand access.

Preparing for the Future: We will be a chapter that grows and develops tomorrow's health leaders today, at the same time that we develop today's health leaders for tomorrow.

Improve Chapter Management and Governance: The Board will adopt structures and processes to enhance engagement, accountability and transparency in promoting optimum functioning of the chapter.

These visions will guide our focus over the next 3 years bringing new value to members, expanded services and enhanced communications. We hope this encourages you and non-member colleagues who may attend our events to maintain the value of membership.

We are all a little more resilient for the winter just experienced and will be especially grateful for those early signs of Spring. I'll look forward to seeing many of you at the Spring Conference on April 15th, on Technology and Innovation which promises to be one of our most ambitious programs to date.

Warm Regards,

Karen Moore, FACHE

ACHE of MA Chapter Regent

Jack has served as our Regent for the last 3 years. The board would like to thank him for his dedication to our membership. During his tenure he has worked to make our chapter a much stronger one. Fortunately for us, Jack has taken the position of Membership and Advancement Chair on the Board.

Below is his last Regent message to the chapter.

Dear Colleagues:

This winter Regent message is my last before passing the baton at the end of my 3-year term next month. It has truly been a privilege and honor to represent ACHE of Massachusetts on the Council of Regents. When I began this role, I recall that I had goals around ensuring ACHE of MA had an effective link between the current and next generations of healthcare management professionals, as well as robust support for the professional development of all constituents represented by our diverse membership. With the leadership of a very dynamic chapter board and several member volunteers, I can honestly say that we as a chapter have achieved all these things and more.

Early Careerist Network (ECN)

Hello from the ECN Leadership Council,

It will be hard to match the growth and success we had in 2014 as we launched our education panel series, networking and civic engagement events, revitalized the chapter's mentorship program and broadened our social media communications. So we've decided to kick off 2015 with the same zeal and entrepreneurial spirit! We have also welcomed a host of new members to our council as we look to expand our efforts in the coming year. While we look to build upon our events from this past year, some of our new goals include:

  • Developing a fellowship study program for eligible members looking to earn their fellowship credential
  • Building relationships with other healthcare groups to offer reduced fees to non-ACHE events
  • Engaging our Higher Education Network to develop new offerings for student members
  • Investigating sponsorship and grant opportunities for ECN events
  • Restructuring our Mentorship Program
  • And we recently launched our ACHE of MA Twitter account...follow us @ACHEofMA!

Again, all our achievements and the goals we have ahead are all a result of the dedication and hard work by the team of Early Careerists that make up our leadership council. I cannot thank all of them enough. If you'd like to volunteer and are looking for opportunities, please contact me at: For those interested, please note you'll be expected to commit for the full calendar year and will need to be able to make a monthly call/meeting. If you cannot make that commitment and would still like to contribute, we have volunteer opportunities available on an as available basis.

Best Regards,
Taylan Bozkurt, Massachusetts General Hospital
Vice-Chair, Early Careerist Network
