Pastor's Ponderings

Hello Church Family,

It has been a slow week in the Case household.  We enjoyed spending the day together on Presidents Day.  The three of us slept in, possibly for the first time ever since Joshua was born!  I then assisted the maintenance man as he installed a new water heater in our utility room.  Apparently, they aren't supposed to leak all over the floor.

The grand finale of our day was to enjoy "Ski After Three" at Alta.  It's still amazing to us to be able to load up our ski's and be on the slopes in about thirty minutes.  It was 50 degrees here in the valley, and 30 degrees up on the mountain.  The snow was amazing.  It was so nice even I looked like a good skier!

It was instructive to watch those around me.  Where else on earth do you see so many people helping each other?  Everywhere I looked I could see people sprawled out over the snow.  Ski's up in the air, arms and legs twisted into funny positions.  Total strangers stopping to lend a hand, asking, "is everything OK?"  Then they would help them get back onto their feet and they would continue their downward journey to the base of the mountain.

For me, it was a little picture of what the Christian walk should be like.  When someone is in trouble, who should be the first to stop and offer assistance?

Jesus offered us help that we didn't deserve.  Truthfully, we didn't even know we needed it.  We certainly couldn't do it ourselves.

It was an interesting lesson I learned
on the slopes of Alta
.

Have a great week.

Arlene Hill - Riverview Adventist Church - Reno

Since the Executive Committee Session, a committee made up of head elders or other church delegate to select a Supplementary Committee to join the Conference Executive Committee in the process of selecting a new president, according to the Nevada-Utah Conference bylaws.  I have attached a spreadsheet identifying both the Executive Committee and the Supplemental Committee for your information (here).  If you have significant input to the selection process, please contact one of these Committee Members with your concern to be considered.

We hope to keep you more informed about what is happening here in the Conference office.  Please pass this information along to your congregations. After all...it is all done in support of the churches and pastors in the field where the "REAL" work happens.

Blessings!
