Have you ever been told you are a bad person? At one time in our lives, justified or not, most of us have been told that we are bad.
How does it make you feel? Not very good I would imagine. We don't like to think of ourselves as bad people. In fact, most of us like to think that we are pretty good people.
That is, until we read what the Bible says. We are told in Romans that none of us are good. Romans 3:23 says that we have all sinned and fall short of God's glory. Sin, defined as the transgression of God's law, means that we are separated from God.
If you ask yourself, "What have I done?" The list can get pretty overwhelming.
Have you taken God's name in vain? Have you put something or someone before God in your life? Have you lied? Have you broken the Sabbath? Have you lusted? Have you been angry at someone? Have you said things about others that puts them in a poor light (gossip)? And the list goes on...
When I ask myself, "What have I done?" it can be depressing.
Even though all of these things are true of us I'm thankful to God for another way of looking at things, the way that He looks at them.
What I've done is trust in Jesus.
When we trust in Jesus we are viewed very differently. You may have heard the term "Rose Colored Glasses." You see everything nicer than it really is. I would suggest that when we trust in Jesus, God looks at us through "Jesus colored glasses". He sees us based on what Jesus has done, rather than all that we've done.
I don't know about you, but I pray that when I'm asked the question "What have you done?" Instead of saying "I've sinned," I can say "I trust in Jesus."
Jesus works through us to change us into His image. Trust in Jesus!
