Bifocals

When we are young most of us are able to see relatively well.  The stars in the sky are clear and crisp.  The words on a page are easily discernable.  Good eyesight is something that many of us take for granted.  We are able to see what we want to see when we want to see it.  Our eyes work and we don't think about it because that is simply the way things are supposed to happen.

As we age, a time comes for many of us when we suddenly realize that we are not able to see as well as we used too.  The street signs are no longer as clear as they used to be, or we find that it's becoming harder to read the mail.  We are forced to get glasses or contacts.  As things progress many of us eventually need bifocals.

Bifocals are an amazing invention.  When you look through the top of the lens they allow you to focus in on distant objects like a billboard or house number.  When you look through the bottom of the lens it helps you to read your menu or wrist watch.

As Christians we need to have spiritual bifocals.  We need to be looking into the distance.  What do we see as Christians when we look into the distance?  We see the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  With Him we see our reward, eternal life.

We also need to have our eyes focused on the here and now.  Our close up focus is important because we need to be aware of the everyday signs, opportunities, and events taking place around us.

If we focus only on the distance or future we are in danger of tripping and falling into a hole.  Focusing on the close up or present is equally as dangerous, because we can lose sight of our goal and get lost.

You need to put on your spiritual bifocals.  You need to be focused on the present, our relationship with Jesus and the future, the eternal reward that He has for us.

Jeremiah 29:11  "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."

SCA NEWS
Ms. Sara's class has been reading "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day." it's a humorous book....at least from our perspective, because as Will Rogers once said, "Everything's funny, as long as it's happening to somebody else." But, at the same time, that title is enough to fill a person with foreboding. A red flag goes up and we start to more...
