"Why wasn't Satan satisfied with what he had?" she asked. "Why did he want more?"
I thought for a moment, "Satan was created in a perfect world and was one of the most powerful created beings, but he wanted more. We don't know exactly why."
As I continued my Bible studies with this teenager, my mind kept replaying her question over and over in my head. "Why did he want more?"
I couldn't help but realize that sin, originating in Satan, was all around me, and in me. I began to realize that I was suffering from the same disease Satan sufferers with. I want more.
All of my needs are more than taken care of yet society pushes me to want more. You need the latest and greatest. Buy these records, your life isn't complete without them. Forget records, what you need is eight track. No, eight track is a thing of the past, if you really want to be hip you'll buy cassette tapes. Actually, the cool people are buying CD's. To be on the cutting edge you need to download mps's.
I'm not suggesting any of these items are sinful, but it does show how society keeps pushing us to want more, get more, buy more, have more, more, more...
Satan wanted something he couldn't have. He wanted to be God. On this earth Satan tempts us in the same way. If you purchase just one more thing, if you get this one more item, you will have arrived. You'll be cool. You will be GOD!
When you analyze your life, do you find that you have fallen into the trap of looking for fulfillment in your life in "more"? Our fulfillment comes from God.
Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart -- These, O God, You will not despise.
