Ouch!

"OUCH!" I pulled the sandwich away from my mouth and saw the color red. I bit my tongue so hard I couldn't even eat. It had all started earlier that day when I was chewing some gum. I don't even know how it happened, but suddenly I felt the stinging pain that comes when you bite your tongue. Hours later I am talking and trying to be careful of my now swollen tongue. "Ouch!" I bit it again. Now I find myself with a hugely swollen tongue that has been bitten twice. I'm hungry and don't know what to do. How am I going to eat?

It's at this point that I find myself at Subway eating a sub where I bit my tongue for the third time. I have just about had it and I begin to get angry. I bit my tongue again. When I pull the sub away from my mouth there is blood on the bread. By the time the meal is over I have bitten my tongue five times and I am fuming mad! But who do you blame for a sore tongue? I begin to wonder if my tongue will ever function normally again.

One verse that comes to mind is I Peter 5:7 which tells us that we are to cast all our "...cares upon Him, for He cares for you."

Another thought hits me. Sin starts out like my sore tongue. It looks innocent enough then after it's been bit it begins to grow and swell. It becomes more obvious and easier to do again. In fact it becomes hard to revert to doing things normally.

Sin swells quickly on our lives and begins to take over. It becomes easier and easier to sin, even if we don't enjoy doing it.

It is because of the dangers of sin that Peter continues his warning. 1 Peter 5:8-9 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world."

Thank You!
I would like to thank you for your generosity in your kind words of appreciation and friendship, as well as the gifts you bestowed on me this Christmas.  I feel loved!
Thank you, again.  Carol Allison, Secretary
