GLOW TRACT DISTRIBUTION
AUG. 30 - Jordan Park Intn'l
Peace Gardens
2-4 p.m.
As Christians living in a world starving for answers about the 'big picture', how can we keep the knowledge, grace and security of our loving Savior all to ourselves?  GLOW tracts are a great way to introduce ideas and spark interest in what the Bible really says "to give us hope and a future."  Contact Evon Webb if you are willing to give an hour of your time on one or both of these Sabbath afternoons at 801-688-1025.

NEEDED:  PATHFINDER LEADERS
Looking for a few dedicated people:  Our Wasatch Pathfinder Club has really taken off in the last two years. We have a big group of young people enthusiastically participating. But some of our consistent, dedicated helpers have moved away. Our club is in desperate need of some more willing people to assist with our monthly meetings. The commitment isn't huge---just one Sabbath afternoon a month and maybe a weekend camping trip or hike once or twice a year. But in order for the program to work, we need some people that will actually commit to being there each time. It won't work to have helpers that just show when they want to. The job isn't that hard---just being a counselor and helping kids do their Friend or Companion requirements and assisting Director David Rowe with what else is needed. Finding some dedicated adults to help will insure that this program continues. If you or someone you know would like to help us in this awesome church ministry, please see Brenda Watson, Lisa Blackwelder, or David Rowe.  Or contact brenda@wasatchhills.org

What's In A Name?

"But to pray in Christ's name means much. It means that we are to accept His character, manifest His spirit, and work His works. The Saviour's promise is given on condition. "If ye love Me," He says, "keep My commandments." He saves men, not in sin, but from sin; and those who love Him will show their love by obedience."  {DA 668.2} - DA Ch. 73 - "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled."
Words have meaning. The words we use are important. The words that come out of our mouth bring to us both consequences and rewards.

It is with this in mind that I turn to the name of Jesus. Many people read the Bible's instruction that we are to pray in the name of Jesus, and believe that by ending their prayer with "in Jesus' name" they are indeed praying in Jesus' name.

I would suggest that this is not necessarily true. Simply adding the words "in Jesus' name" at the end of a prayer doesn't make that prayer "in Jesus' name."

For example I could pray "Dear Jesus, please give me the strength to steal my neighbor's car.   In Jesus' name, Amen."

I think we would all agree that the above prayer was not said "in Jesus' name." He would never support stealing my neighbor's car. That is not in his will.

The above passage from the Desire of Ages challenges us that to pray in Jesus' name, to be a Christian, is something that changes our character. The Spirit of God works in us. We work His works. We are praying in Jesus' name when we are doing His will.

Praying in Jesus' name has more to do with the way we live our lives than the words that we speak.

God is not looking for us to pray "in Jesus' name"as much as He is looking for us to "live"in Jesus' name.

Do you give God lip service or our you giving God your life service?

FAREWELL POTLUCK - SUSAN ERWIN
This Sabbath, August 16, will be the last Sabbath
that Susan Erwin will be with us.  The Lord has
blessed Susan & her husband, Robert, with retirement and a new home - in Kanab, Utah  (sniff, sniff).  Susan has been our wonderful flower/yard care-person for many years, and she has always done a beautiful job and been incredibly faithful!   She has also lead out in the Women's Sabbath school class for several years. It's going to take a team of volunteers to replace her!  If you would like to stay for the potluck that Sabbath, please plan to bring a dish to share, and a little extra for visitors.
SKI DAY!  SUNDAY, AUGUST 17!

Jordanelle State Park
Back-To-School Waterski Bash

All are invited to come to the Jordanelle State Park this coming Sunday, Aug. 17 for a Back-To-School Waterski Bash. We will meet at 8 am at the beach with the dock and smaller boat launching area just down road from the Cove Pavilion where we were last year (not to get confused with the main boat launching area with the large parking lot on the other side of the reservoir). We will not be meeting at the Cove Pavilion, as renting the pavilion allows us a cheaper rate to get everyone into the park, but it is more fun to stay at the beach all day. We will be having hot dogs for lunch. Please bring a side dish to share with everyone, eg. various salads, fruit, chips, etc. Water will be provided. Don't forget to bring: camp chairs, canopies or umbrellas, sunscreen, drinks if you want anything other than water, hats, sunglasses, life vests if you have any, and towels. The first 75 people are allowed into the park free (mention that you are part of the Wasatch Hills Church Cove Pavilion group). Each additional person after 75 is $2 up to 100 people max. Babies are free. Hope to see you there!
