Words of Hope

   I Thessalonians 4:13-18
13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.  15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

One Thing Missing

The gym at Union College (affectionately called the Thunder Dome) was filled with spectators. Parents, college students, the various students from the area's academies. The noise level was rising and I was quickly beginning to understand why it was called the Thunder Dome.
The bench area for both teams was prepared for the game. There was a new water bottle at each chair for the soon to be thirsty players. There was a first aid kid behind the coaches chair. The players had set out their towels, extra shoes, and other possessions behind their row of chairs.
The coaches for both teams were standing next to their chairs watching their players in the final seconds before the game was to begin. The gym was full of nervous energy. What was going to happen? Will our team remember what they
've been taught? Will we do our best?
The starting five from each team met at center court while the remaining players took their seats on the bench. The refs joined the players at center court for prayer.
It was finally game time. Everything was set. We waited for the beginning of this much anticipated game
...
       ...
only nothing happened. The players began to look at each other and smile. The ref's looked around nervously. The coaches walked out to center court to see what the problem was.
Finally, it was announced from the scorers table that the game would begin as soon as someone found the ball. The people in the bleachers laughed and someone said, "this will be a sermon illustration someday."
Immediately the parallel struck me. Imagine the perfect life. Your income is greater than your bills. Your house is paid for. Your cars are paid for. You have more than enough clothes and food. Every want in your life has been taken care of, but you don
't have God.
A life without God is as pointless a basketball game without a basketball. Is anything missing from your life?

"Everything we think we know about marriage and divorce is wrong"
Pastor Case recommends that everyone read this article.  He's been familiar with the false statistics about marriage for years.  This is the best article that he's seen that has pulled together the information and articulates the truth.  Spread the word.  :-)       read it here
GLOW TRACT DISTRIBUTION
AUG. 30 - Jordan Park Intn'l Peace
               Gardens, 2-4 p.m.
As Christians living in a world starving for answers about the 'big picture', how can we keep the knowledge, grace and security of our loving Savior all to ourselves?  GLOW tracts are a great way to introduce ideas and spark interest in what the Bible really says "to give us hope and a future."  Contact Evon Webb if you are willing to give an hour of your time on one or both of these Sabbath afternoons at 801-688-1025.

NEEDED:  PATHFINDER LEADERS
Looking for a few dedicated people:  Our Wasatch Pathfinder Club has really taken off in the last two years. We have a big group of young people enthusiastically participating. But some of our consistent, dedicated helpers have moved away. Our club is in desperate need of some more willing people to assist with our monthly meetings. The commitment isn't huge---just one Sabbath afternoon a month and maybe a weekend camping trip or hike once or twice a year. But in order for the program to work, we need some people that will actually commit to being there each time. It won't work to have helpers that just show when they want to. The job isn't that hard---just being a counselor and helping kids do their Friend or Companion requirements and assisting Director David Rowe with what else is needed. Finding some dedicated adults to help will insure that this program continues. If you or someone you know would like to help us in this awesome church ministry, please see Brenda Watson, Lisa Blackwelder, or David Rowe.  Or contact brenda@wasatchhills.org
If you have information you would like included in the newsletter, please email it to the church office by the Monday of each week to secretary@wasatchhills.org.
P.S.  Send in your favorite vegetarian recipe!
