Eden Gardens

It was 9 a.m. and the church parking lot was packed. Sabbath School wasn't scheduled to start for 15 more minutes, but as I walked into the sanctuary it was already two-thirds full. Song service started exactly at 9:15, followed by a welcome and then a mission story.

My brother and I noticed that all around us the hair color was grey. Our age group was obviously in the minority. I guess that shouldn't have been a surprise since we were visiting the Eden Gardens SDA retirement community.
All around it appeared that I was in a church full of people who were excited to be together, excited to be in church, excited to worship God this Sabbath morning.

As I was visiting my grandfather, I was impressed by the level of importance that church and God has in his life. My grandfather's memory isn't what it once was. We were sitting at the table eating supper on Friday night when my grandfather looked out the window and realized that Friday evening vespers had begun. We weren't even aware that vespers would be taking place, but as soon as my grandfather realized it had started we dropped everything and walked across the street for vespers. It didn't matter that we had been in the middle of supper. We put down our utensils and agreed to finish our food when we returned.

I couldn't help but ask myself if spending time together in the house of God with fellow worshipers was that important to most of us. Do our lives revolve around spending time with God?

No doubt all is not perfect in Eden Gardens, but it does give me a small taste of Heaven.

Revelation 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

HELLO FROM LIBERIA
Wasatch Hills member, surgeon Gillian Seton, began a 5-yr. mission at the SDA hospital in Monrovia, Liberia this past January, right as the Ebola outbreak began.  Following is an email we received from Gillian today:
"I wanted to ask you and Wasatch Hills for some extra prayers. As you may know, West Africa has been hit with the largest Ebola outbreak ever and multiple factors have contributed to serious spread throughout the country, and particularly through the major hospitals. We are one of the very few places that have not had an Ebola case, which is clearly by God's intervention. Nurses, aides, and now doctors are falling ill with the virus, including an American missionary who was helping to care for patients with Ebola (despite full protective gear).
In short, we need all the prayers we can get: to stop the spread of Ebola, save lives of those courageous people who volunteered to care for patients at incredible risk to themselves, and for the rest of us to be protected and able to care for all the regular emergencies that still occur despite this big crisis.
We've had supply support from Loma Linda, the GC, and ADRA, all of which were incredibly important. But prayers do what equipment cannot; only God can keep us safe enough.
Thanks and I hope you are well!

            FAREWELL POTLUCK
