ATL Regional Health Guide Released at City Hall
The 2nd edition of the Atlanta Regional Health Guide: Resources for the Uninsured and Underinsured was unveiled this week at Atlanta City Hall in a press briefing with Mayor Kasim Reed, the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, the National Black Nurses Association, and Pfizer RxPathways.

The revised Guide, printed in both English and Spanish, has been expanded to include resources on diabetes, asthma, and refugee health services. 
A box with 160 copies of the Guide
will be shipped to service providers whose address appears in the booklet.

1-888.720.1337, Option #1. The Guide will be available on the Pfizer RxPathways website under "State Health Guides" in two weeks.

Jennifer Knopf from Alliant GMCF, Georgia's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, will brief us on the Everyone with Diabetes Counts (EDC) initiative. EDC is a free group diabetes education self-management education program designed for senior adults.

Update on the Affordable Care Act
Correction to DCAC's September Newsletter: Open Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace begins on November 15, 2014 and ends on February 15, 2015.
Enrollment Assistance: The new Atlanta Enrollment Assistance Center with its 16 licensed Navigators will serve individuals, families, and small businesses six days per week in their office at:

NEW in 2015: Consumers will also be able to schedule free, in person appointments with licensed assistors using Enroll America's new Get Covered Connector. Read more.

Shopping for Health Insurance: Beginning on Nov.15th, consumers will again be able to view the health plans available in their county without creating an account on HealthCare.gov. An estimate of the cost, with and without financial help, can be seen along with the Plan's Directory of Network Providers and List of Covered Drugs. See Find Local Plans.

Free Preventive Services: The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) may soon be covered as a free preventive service under the Affordable Care Act. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) issues recommendations which are used to determine which preventive services are covered by health plans without cost to the subscriber. In August of 2014, the USPSTF updated its recommendation for adults who are overweight or obese and have one additional cardiovascular (CVD) risk factor to include "intensive counseling to promote healthful diet and physical activity for CVD prevention" Read more...

FDHA's Community Health Grants Program
Fulton DeKalb Hospital Authority's 2015 Community Health Grants Program is accepting proposals from non-profit organizations with a current 501c3 status to provide health-related services or activities in one of 10 focus areas. Grant funding ranges from $1,000 to $25,000. Deadline for the submission of applications is 5:00 pm on November 3rd. Learn more...

Health Happenings in the Hometown
Dr. Debbie Wallace, Director of the Health Institute for Preventive CARE, recently announced the launch of a new venture, True Health TV. With the operational support of Zaidie Crowe, former Assistant Producer with BBC Television, the local channel's programming will address all aspects of health: spiritual, emotional, mental and physical.
Members of the public may show support for this new venture through donations and sponsorships starting with the True Health TV Banquet on Saturday, November 8th. Tickets for the black tie event may be purchased here.
