DCAC JOINS LOCAL COLLABORATIVE
 

DCAC recently joined the Atlanta Regional Collaborative for Health Improvement (ARCHI).  ARCHI members comprise a range of organizations and individuals who are committed to working together toward a common agenda. 

ARCHI members include hospitals, community health centers, behavioral health providers, physicians, insurers, business leaders, public health professionals, universities, local governments, and representatives from the faith and philanthropic communities.

IN THE NEWS

  

Alliant GMCF is now the Medicare Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) for Georgia and North Carolina.  As part of a five-year plan, Alliant GMCF was awarded a contract to implement a diabetes quality improvement program in both states. 
 

The Everyone with Diabetes Counts (EDC) program provides evidence-based diabetes self-management education to underserved Medicare beneficiaries. DCAC will be working with Alliant GMCF to promote the program beginning next year.  Read more...

Beginning August 1st, Medicare beneficiaries in Georgia who have a complaint, an appeal, or a report to file on quality of care are advised to contact KEPRO at 1-844-455-8708.  KEPRO will serve as part of the Quality Improvement Organization and deal directly with the concerns of individual Medicare beneficiaries.  Learn more.

The public is invited to Kidney Action Day, Tuesday, Sept. 23rd at Underground Atlanta.  Free kidney screenings, healthy food samples, along with entertainment and fitness demos will be featured.

John Riley, Georgia Diabetes Association (GDC):
Registration is now open for the Tri-Regional Faith and Community Health Summit to be held in Atlanta on November 6th and 7th. This year, GDC's Community Awards Luncheon will be held on Nov. 6th in conjunction with the Summit.   Register today!

 

 

New Beginnings Discussion Guide  
 

The National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) invites community health advocates to join a live webinar led by Alexis Williams  (guest speaker at DCAC's April meeting) on NDEP's revised New Beginnings Discussion Guide to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd, 2 pm to 3 pm. Register here. 

CEUs are now available from the NDEP for the podcast, Managing the Emotional Impact of Diabetes, released along with the Discussion Guide.  Register for the podcast under the "Training" tab found here.

The Ruby A. Neeson Diabetes Awareness Foundation is hosting a New Beginnings:  Managing the Emotional Impact of Diabetes program which will include a showing of the film "The Debilitator".  Refreshments will be served.

"Don't Let Diabetes Knock You Off Your Feet!"
 
DCAC is partnering with health advocates, community and faith-based organizations, and health care providers to raise awareness about the dangers of diabetic nerve damage to the lower legs and feet, otherwise known as diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).  Read more...

DCAC members interested in foot care resources for people living with diabetes as well as CEUs for health care providers are encouraged to download the handout:  Foot Care Resources for Health Educators.
 
Copies of the American Diabetes Association poster (19" x 25"), provided by Dr. Comfort, and other foot care materials are available by calling DCAC at 740-807-1054.
 
 

 

New Health Guide to be Released...
 

The printing of 50,000 copies of the revised Atlanta Regional Health Guide: Resources for the Uninsured and Underinsured has been completed with the financial support of Pfizer's RxPathways.


The release of the Health Guide will be announced at a press briefing in the near future.  Once released, copies of the Health Guide can be ordered from Arcos Communications by calling: 212-807-1337.
