Diabetes Alert Day: Tuesday, March 25th
For 26 years, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has set aside a one-day "wake- up call" asking the public to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. Those taking the Diabetes Risk Test on the ADA website can learn simple, small steps to take to lower their risk. For a paper copy of the Diabetes Risk Test in English and Spanish, click here.
For more information about ADA programs, visit www.diabetes.org or call 1-800-DIABETES.
In recognition of Diabetes Alert Day, DCAC will conduct a program at the H.J.C. Bowden Senior Multipurpose Center in East Point. DCAC partners participating in the event include: the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, Southside Medical Center, Alliant GMCF, and the Ruby A. Neeson Diabetes Awareness Foundation. The program entitled "Community Resources to Prevent Diabetes and Its Complications" will include a special showing of the locally produced film, The Debilitator. Living Well: Taking Medication as Prescribed
Each month, we offer a resource for you to use or share with others.
The affordability of medication to manage diabetes can be a barrier to taking medications as prescribed. To lower the risk of heart disease, a person with diabetes must quit smoking and manage blood glucose, blood pressure, and blood cholesterol. If a person has had diabetes for 10 years, this may involve taking six or more medications on a regular basis.
DCAC is a "Resource for Resources" when it comes to saving money on prescription drugs and diabetes supplies. Download our Saving Money handout or call us at 740-807-1054 for more information.
