Cardiovascular disease is the Number #1 cause of death in the United States. It is important to know that people with high blood pressure and/or Diabetes are among those with the greatest risk for heart disease and stroke.
Currently, 75 million Americans have high blood pressure:
* 17 million are not aware that they have it
* Of those who are aware, 7 million are untreated
* Of those treated, 18 million still have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
Find out today what steps you can take to care for your heart. Share what you learn with family and friends. Free brochures and tip sheets are available to order from the National Diabetes Education Program in English and Spanish. Order free materials here...

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Brenda Lankford, Healthy Heart Champion
Brenda Lankford, RN, MBA, CEO of Aria Consultants, Inc., is committed to empowering members of the community to prevent cardiovascular disease and its complications. Brenda's extensive background as a Cardiac Clinical Nurse Specialist and Researcher with the Morehouse School of Medicine has taught her the importance of involving individuals and families as partners in their health care. Last fall, Brenda was named a Power to End Stroke Ambassador by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Brenda serves as a mentor to participants in the new AHA Heart360 program. The Heart360 program allows participants to track blood pressure online and to set and work toward goals with the support of an AHA-trained health mentor. The overall goals of the program are improved blood pressure control, increased physical activity, and weight reduction. To learn more about this innovative program from the American Heart Association, see the Heart360 Brochure.
DCAC would like to recognize Brenda for her work behind the scenes in preparation for the Tri-regional Faith and Community Health Summit held in Atlanta last October and her recent election as Secretary to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Diabetes Coalition. Are you in need for CPR Certification? Let's not forget that Brenda is also an AHA-trained CPR Instructor. Thank you, Brenda, for all the work that you do!
