Countdown to ICD-10

The ICD-9 code sets used to report medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures will be replaced by ICD-10 code sets on October 1, 2015.  The transition to ICD-10 (Road to 10) is required for everyone covered by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).  Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed several resources to assist with this transition.

To convert ICD-9 to ICD-10, please use the  2015 General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) - Diagnosis Codes and Guide found on the CMS website.

Help us Prevent PHI/PII Security Incidents

You may see this warning on the bottom of e-mail messages from Network staff.  This warning is to remind provider staff that if any patient information is sent via e-mail to either the Network or the Help Desk, a security incident must be reported to CMS, the e-mail must be deleted and any persons involved in sending or receiving the e-mail will be contacted to file a certificate of destruction and be counselled in protecting PHI/PII. For more information, please see http://esrdny.ipro.org/data-management/overview/piiphi-and-hippa/
Are you Prepared?

Take appropriate steps now to prepare and stay safe in the event of an emergency.
  • Help your patients prepare for their dialysis treatments-If an emergency happens, dialysis facility staff have a key role in educating patients.  Take steps such as providing a copy of the treatment prescription, emergency diet guidelines or other resources. Each dialysis facility is required to have an emergency plan; as a staff member talk with your team about what to do if there is an emergency.

New Toolkit Helps Keep Dialysis Patients Safer

To help prevent infection in people with end-stage renal disease, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has developed a new resource called the AHRQ Safety Program for End-Stage Renal Disease Facilities Toolkit. Dialysis clinics can use this toolkit to help prevent healthcare-associated infections in their patients.

Available at no charge, the toolkit helps clinicians and other health care workers follow clinical best practices, create a culture of safety, use checklists and other audit tools, and engage patients and their families in infection prevention practices. This new resource has science-based, practical information-including educational videos-that reflects the experiences of the frontline providers who helped develop the toolkit.
