Information from UNOS about education on upcoming changes to kidney transplantation allocation.
Recorded webinar now available - "The New Kidney Allocation System: What Referring Physicians Need to Know"
In November 2013, the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors approved policy to substantially revise the national kidney allocation system. This recording provides basic information to physicians who may refer kidney patients for transplant evaluation about changes to the kidney allocation system. It is intended to raise awareness among referring physicians of the importance of early referral and pre-emptive listing for transplantation.
The program will:
1. Explain the new kidney allocation policy and its goals;
2. Summarize the changes in allocation components for deceased donor kidneys;
3. Describe patient indicators appropriate for transplant evaluation referral; and
4. List resources available for additional information including education for patients
You may access the recording on the Organ Procurement and Transplantation (OPTN) website - http://optn.transplant.hrsa.gov/news/newsDetail.asp?id=1635. The slides for this recorded webinar are also available should kidney transplant programs wish to use them in educating their referring physicians. You may contact education@unos.org to obtain the slides.
