Featured Member of the Month: Regional Transit

Did you know the Sac RT has a ridership of 32 million people per year! How many times did you ride the Bus or Light Rail this year?  Sacramento Regional Transit has been a force of changing the face of Sacramento public transportation since 1973. Through their leadership and SHCC involvement as a Latino Partner, Sac RT has helped provide business with outlets to increase their business through the procurement opportunities.

The Sacramento Regional Transit District operates 67 bus routes and 38.6 miles of light rail covering a 418 square-mile service area. Annual ridership has steadily increased on both the bus and light rail systems from 14 million passengers in 1987 to over 32 million passengers in 2010. RT's entire bus and light rail system is accessible to the disabled community. With an organization this size, and so many moving parts, they have made offering small businesses RT Bids a top priority. Have you been to one of the RT Workshops that teach business how to become certified and receive bids? We have more planned for 2014, and businesses that attend get results.

Sac RT's involvement goes beyond just the Latino Partner contribution, but their leadership team plays an active role within the community. Dee Brookshire is the Chief Financial Officer for RT and is responsible for all finance; accounting; cash management; grant funding; and treasury functions of the District.  She is also the Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Sacramento Business Service Center.  With her knowledge and expertise, Dee adds valuable knowledge for the procurement opportunities for the SHCC members.

Dee has more than twenty years of experience in public agency and private sector finance at the senior and executive level. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Finance and Economics from California State University Sacramento; a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada Reno, as well as the professional certification of Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) from the Association of Government Accountants (AGA). We are proud of our Leading Latina.

Sac Regional transit has helped the SHCC maintain it standing as a leading business organization by creating a year round partnership. The workshops that the SHCC partners with RT offer great training to businesses that are ready to take their business to the next level. Because of their year dedication to the Hispanic Business Community, Sac RT is named Corporate Partner of the Year for the 42nd Annual Business Recognition and Award Gala on Feb. 7th.
