First Hispanic Author to Win Pulitzer Prize Dies

Pulitzer Prize-winning U.S. author Oscar Hijuelos died during the weekend of cardiac arrest, his literary agent said. He was 62.

 

CNN said Hijuelos, who was born in New York to Cuban parents, was the first Latino author to win the fiction prize. He was honored for his 1989 novel, "The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love."

Jesus Vargas, Principle and Owner of DPMG, started as a semi retired professional working as an Interim Professor at Sierra College when the need for strategic business planning grew. Six years later he went from part time professor to full time business owner. With his Partner, six employees and  two contractors they work to help business implement strategies based on the lean principles of boosting competitiveness, profitability and growth. DPMG Corporation services include consulting, coaching, facilitation, mentoring and training in a variety of areas including: Strategic Planning, Leadership Development, Project management, Green and Sustainability, Product Development and Design, and Business/Operation Assessments.

 

Jesus joined the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce within the same year of starting his company, because of the importance of Hispanic solidarity. The DPMG has been members of the SHCC 2008, and has played active roles as an instructor for SHCC workshops. As a member of the SHCC, Jesus was tapped to help Hispanic Outreach for the Golden Empire Boy Scouts of America. He now serves as the VP of Membership.  He sits on educational focused boards like the STEM Board in Placerville and Sierra College Industrial Advisory Board.

Multi-Sector Trade Mission to Chihuahua, Mexico

November, Wednesday 6th - Sunday 10th, 2013

Chihuahua, Mexico

This Trade Mission to Mexico 2013 is an opportunity for small- and medium-size California companies to (1) introduce their innovative products and services to potential end-users, distributors, and representatives in Chihuahua and Mexico City and their surrounding areas; (2) to meet with industry leaders and government officials in Chihuahua and Mexico City to learn about various opportunities in the industries of electronics and communications, automotive vehicles and parts, food and agro, mining and materials, furniture and wood products, fabrics, biotechnology, and aerospace; and (3) participate in site visits to various manufacturing sites to better understand the sales and distribution channels in the market. Chihuahua City will host the first segment of the trade mission and provide one-on-one matchmaking meetings with Mexican buyers, an in-depth market briefing by U.S. Embassy staff/U.S. Commercial Service, and a business networking session with Mexican buyers and representatives of designated industrial/commercial associations including chambers of commerce. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: October 15, 2013. All participating companies are responsible for each participant's travel, accommodations, most meals, and incidentals.
