Join me in welcoming Lisa Skelly-Byrnes to the Yale University Police Department.  Lisa starts Monday as our Director of Compliance and Strategic Initiatives reporting directly to me. 

In this new public safety role, she will be responsible for developing, managing and implementing strategic plans and operational initiatives as part of the senior civilian administration for the University Police and Security Departments.  Lisa will also serve as the University's compliance officer for all relevant federal and state regulations regarding public safety and will serve as a key adviser on strategic issues.

Prior to joining the YPD, Lisa was a police officer in Buffalo, NY and then went on to become an FBI Agent in its Field Intelligence and Human Intelligence/Source Development Groups based out of New Haven. Lisa spent half her career with the FBI working in the Criminal Division on violent crimes and fugitive matters. During that time she served on the CT Fugitive Task Force in Bridgeport.  The second half of her FBI career was in the National Security Branch working on CTIC and with the Field Intelligence Group (FIG).

While at the FBI, she worked to identify, assess and recruit vital sources of information and intelligence.  She also worked as a liaison with the public, academic and intelligence communities as well as law enforcement and private sector entities. Part of her duties included preparing intelligence products for dissemination to the US Intelligence Community (USIC) and providing critical incident response coordination and support.

Lisa has worked with many local colleges and universities as an active shooter threat assessment expert.  Over the past several years, she has worked on cases with us and we are excited to now have her as part of the YPD Team.
