To the Members of the YPD,
Every year since 1986, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has held an annual Law Enforcement Recognition Ceremony. This year, two Yale University Police (YPD) Officers , Sergei Orshansky and Leo Otero, received awards for their DUI enforcement. During the ceremony, MADD honored 151officers and troopers from throughout Connecticut giving awards for DUI and alcohol enforcement, drunk driving education, community involvement, volunteering and underage drinking enforcement. The event which included a bagpipe-lead, honor-guard procession, several speakers and dinner was held at Central Connecticut State University. Officers Orshansky and Otero led the YPD in the number of DUI arrests this past year. Several members of the YPD community attended the event to support these officers, including: myself, Assistant Chief Woznyk, Lieutenant Vitale, Sergeant Donnelly, Sergeant Wood and Officer Simons. We are proud of Sergei and Leo! They have been dedicated and diligent in their goal to help take drunk drivers off the streets and keep our community safe. Each time a drunk driver is stopped and arrested a life is potentially saved. Keep up the good work! Please join me in congratulating Officers Orshansky and Otero on their awards.
Sincerely,
Ronnell A. Higgins Chief, Yale University Police |
