New Officer Appreciation Program
Late last fall the Security Operations Managers got together to develop a program that recognizes excellence and above-average performances in the officer ranks. The new Yale Security Officer Appreciation Certificate Program recognizes performances that go above standard operating procedures. Quite often, managers receive emails or letters of thanks from departments telling of a circumstance when an officer went above and beyond their normal duties to help someone in distress, or defuse a tense situation or even change a flat tire! The managers felt strongly that these individuals should be recognized for their outstanding performance. Each letter or email is vetted by the directors and other managers to insure it meets the program parameters. Once approved, a certificate is printed with the person's name, placed in a frame and presented to the officer during roll call with a copy of the letter or email. "Doing the mini-ceremony during roll call has bolstered morale," says Security Manager Reggie Chavis. "This program shows that we value our officers," he continued. Officers in all three shifts have received certificates including: - Gloria Colon
- Phil Priore, Sr.
- Audeliz Rubio
- Gregory Teel

When something good transpires, it makes the community that the officer works in feel good and it provides a benefit for an individual or individuals. The compassion and willingness to help beyond what is expected raises the credibility of the entire Yale Security Department whose members endeavor to provide a safe environment for the Yale community.

Security Manager John Kwiatkowski Retires
| John (in purple shirt) at his last roll call with 1st shift security officers. |
Congratulations and farewell to Manager John Kwiatkowski who retired after 15 years with Yale Security. He started in the Alarm Station and ended his career as a supervisor managing the first-shift field officers. Prior to Yale, he worked for U.S. Surgical and the Millstone Nuclear Power Station in armed security rising to the sniper team before he left. "All the rest [of his career] is classified," said John.
While he will be absent from daily roll calls, John won't be slowing down. He will be working as a Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart for the State of Connecticut representing wounded veterans. "I will be traveling throughout the country representing wounded veterans and their families, an honor that I'll greatly enjoy," said John.
But before that duty, he is going to Aruba with his wife to celebrate his retirement and their 45th wedding anniversary.
On his last day, John was presented with a photo album/scrapbook created by Officer Bridget Furlow. "It took her months to put it together and covers my career at Yale and all the people I worked with. I'll always remember the people I worked with at Yale as a second family," said John.

Kudos on Yale Yammer
Yammer is a private social network designed to help departments and/or teams stay in touch. Yale Yammer has many followers and recently in an effort to boost our Security Facebook numbers this photo was posted. In addition to increased likes on Facebook, Environmental Health & Safety Manager Kevin Charbonneau wrote these very kind words. Thanks Kevin! |
