win a $100,000 donation from Art Van!
Dear KCC Alumni:

We're really excited to let you know that we're a part of the Art Van Charity Challenge. It's a fundraising campaign launched by Art Van Furniture benefiting organizations supporting children, health and human services in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

It starts on May 18th at 12pm ET and a total of $300,000 will be given away to organizations in the Challenge. The organization that raises the most will receive a $100,000 donation. Second place gets $50,000, third gets $25,000 and fourth through tenth also get Challenge grants. We're ready to raise as much money as we can so we can win the $100,000 grand prize donation.

How You Can Help

Please consider joining our team as a fundraiser. By reaching out to your network of supporters, you can help us make an even bigger impact.

It takes less than five minutes to set up a fundraiser. All you have to do is Go Here, to our CrowdRise page at www.crowdrise.com/kalamazoo-childrens-chorus, and click 'Fundraise for This Campaign.'

Once you start your fundraiser, make sure to update it with either your #MyKccStory or any other story of why you're one of our biggest fans.  Add some of those fabulous pictures you have from your days in KCC and then when the Challenge starts on May 18th, share it with everyone you know and start raising money woth bonus challenges, like the $2,500 prize for a video that creatively showcases our cause, mission and participation in the Art Van Charity Challenge.

If you have any questions at all, please email CrowdRise, our fundraising platform, at ArtVanFurniture@CrowdRise.com and they'll help solve everything.

If for some reason you can't fundraise for our campaign, we'll reach out when the Challenge launches to ask you to give to our cause. Every donation makes a difference, no matter how big or small.

Finally, if you haven't made your #MyKccStory video, we hope you'll take the time to do it this weekend, before the May 18 campaign launch.  Here's what you do:
  • Find someone and a quite place to take a video with your phone telling your KCC story.
  • Attached some helpful hints on how to make the video look its best. When you have completed it just attach it to an e-mail and send it to me at:  fred@kalamazoochildrenschorus.org
  • Mention the Art Van Charity Challenge to make this video work.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Video Tips

·Hold the phone horizontally, like this:

Video Example

·Not like this:
Video Example

·Try to get a neutral surface - like a solid wall - behind the subject, not a busy background.

·Avoid getting daytime windows in the background.

·Find a location with good lighting. Outdoors is often good.

·Get as close to the subject as you can, to hear them best.

·Avoid shooting in a noisy area, especially with music in the background.

·Hold the camera as steady as possible. Prop it or support it on something, if you can.

·Have them look at the camera lens, not the person holding the phone.

·Start recording ahead of time and ask the person to tell us their name, spell it for us, then begin speaking.

·Be critical of their "performance." If you don't think it's great, ask them to do it over.
