#MyKccStory has been a huge success. It was so moving to read firsthand the impact that KCC has had in your lives. If you haven't yet had chance to tell your story it's not too late. In fact we were so inspired that with your help we want to take it to another level - video.
Here's the idea:
- Find someone and a quite place to take a video with your phone telling your KCC story.
- Attached some helpful hints on how to make the video look its best. When you have completed it just attach it to an e-mail and send it to me at: fred@kalamazoochildrenschorus.org
You will need to mention the Art Van Charity Challenge to make this video work. Here's why:
- KCC has been accepted as a partner in the Art Van Charity Challenge. It's a fundraising campaign launched by Art Van Furniture benefiting organizations that support children, health and human services in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Yep, the furniture store that rarely has a sale ; ) starts its challenge on May 18th at 12pm ET and runs it through June 22nd at 1:59pm.
- A total of $300,000 will be given away and the group that raises the most money in that period will receive $100,000 donation from Art Van. There is a sliding scale down to tenth place.
- There are bonus challenges, including a $2,500 prize for a video that creatively showcases our cause, mission and participation in the Art Van Charity Challenge. We think the #MyKccStory campaign is just the project to promote what we do!
We are contacting all of our friends, families and donors to ask that they make their annual contribution to KCC early this year,
through the
Art Van Charity Challenge CrowdRise website. Contributions are tax deductible. Just save the receipt from CrowdRise for tax purposes, but remember, the site doesn't open until noon on Wednesday, May 18.
KCC is the only music organization in the state that was accepted for the challenge.
By using your videos we hope to incentivize those who watch to donate to our cause. This could be a huge deal for KCC. Contributions need not be huge they just need to be many.
Thanks for you consideration, help and support as we gear up for the Art Van Charity Challenge!
Enjoy your summer and I look forward to seeing you beautiful faces and hearing your lovely voices on video! We need your video ASAP so we can produce and edit it next week!

 Video Tips
|
·Hold the phone horizontally, like this:
·Not like this:
·Try to get a neutral surface - like a solid wall - behind the subject, not a busy background.
·Avoid getting daytime windows in the background.
·Find a location with good lighting. Outdoors is often good.
·Get as close to the subject as you can, to hear them best.
·Avoid shooting in a noisy area, especially with music in the background.
·Hold the camera as steady as possible. Prop it or support it on something, if you can.
·Have them look at the camera lens, not the person holding the phone.
·Start recording ahead of time and ask the person to tell us their name, spell it for us, then begin speaking.
·Be critical of their "performance." If you don't think it's great, ask them to do it over.
