Lower eyelid festoons are redundant areas of skin and edema (swelling) that sit on the upper cheek and below the lower eyelid. They are due to a number of environmental causes but are also attributable to aging. Festoons can be difficult to treat and are best addressed with direct removal. "Bags" under the eyes are different than festoons. They are due to protrusion of the fat that surrounds the eyeball and are solely due to aging.
This patient had direct excision or removal of her festoons with a wonderful result. Her scars are well camouflaged and her eyes look so much more youthful and refreshed.
