B&R Graduate Lands Job

Recently a 2005 Boaz & Ruth graduate, Theodore Michael Alexander, stopped by to let us know that he just landed a job with Layter Transportation. The smile on his face was just priceless. Mike's experience includes being part of the Boaz & Ruth Mountain Movers team so this is a great fit for him. When asked what about his experience at Boaz & Ruth helped prepare him, he said, "Everything". He sites his work at Boaz & Ruth as preparation for his ultimate goal - to start a nonprofit of his own to help youth in public housing. We are so proud of Mike and wish him great success!

Boaz & Ruth Provides Day Laborers for Construction Project

This B&R is partnering with NorSouth Construction, Inc. to provide day laborers on an as needed basis for their construction project at Dove Court nearby. NorSouth notifies B&R of their need for workers each day and Tony Scott, B&R Volunteer Coordinator, hires and coordinates the workforce.  So far they have used about 4 workers each day and we are thankful to have this opportunity for community members seeking employment. We currently maintain a list of 125 individuals hoping to find work. We are optimistic that this may lead to permanent employment for some and will allow others to gain skills to lead to jobs in the future.

Renovations Bring Together Participants, Grads, & Staff

Boaz and Ruth has joined internal forces to bring success to 3030 Capital Project Renovation by combining Cathedral Construction and Mountain Movers to accelerate the renovation. Led by Chris Spahr of Dry Bones Restorations, the teams worked well with minimal supervision to accomplish Phase 2 of the project ahead of time, which was to seal the floor. In the midst of all of this our retail teams made it possible to continue business as usual by moving the store temporarily to the classroom. We are so proud of our teams working  hard and coming together for a common goal. Visit our Facebook page for regular updates and photos of the work being done.

2013 MLK Celebration

January 21, 2013 we gathered at Fifth Street Baptist Church to celebrate and honor Martin Luther King, Jr. with our 11th Annual MLK Celebration. We enjoyed the music from the One Voice Chorus, presented awards to deserving partners and volunteers, heard from featured speaker, Ditu Kasuyi, and engaged in fellowship with each other through the candlelight walk and dinner at Boaz & Ruth. We are so grateful to all of our partners who helped make this a special night including Urban Financial Services Coalition, Richmond Leadership Network, and Beta Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
