Inside the Numbers and Athlete Spotlight...

Jeff McClurg

"My son and I were watching Biggest Loser and he said he wanted me to be around for a long time. At that point I met with Justin and all my support team at Crossfit Freedom, gave my full effort to the 30 days Justin ask me to commit to, and the rest is history.

I have come a long way and have a long, long way to go, but with all the family at Crossfit Freedom my future is set and looking bright. In June 2014, a little over a year from starting, I will be 50, and I probably added 10-20 years on to that through Crossfit. I cannot thank them or say enough that I will be a part of Crossfit Freedom as long as they will have me!

Thank you to all for your support and help."

Inside this Edition of Freedom Monthly

Greetings,

Only two more months left of 2013, and we are looking to finish it up strong here at Crossfit Freedom. It's been another wonderful year, and we have some exciting improvements in the works - be on the lookout for some changes around the gym. CFF will be keeping up with the (tech-y) times! We are very excited to unroll a program that will integrate your member experience in a whole new and improved way. I don't want to let the cat out of the bag, so stay tuned!

We had another successful FitoberFest at the end of September - 300 athletes, over a thousand spectators, and beautiful weather to boot! Volunteers and judges - thank you all so much for sacrificing your time to help us out. We couldn't have done it without you!

Trodo Box League also started up. The Open took place on October 19th, and we are pleased to be sending 3 teams to the Trodo Games, held here on November 9th (see below for details).

Last, a reminder that our ongoing Advanced Olympic sessions began last month, and will continue every Tuesday at 4p.m. and Saturday at 8:30a.m. This course is for all members and non members who have previously completed our Olympic Lifting Course.

Getting ready to call it a year, here's how CFF is wrapping up 2013:
  • Thanksgiving day fundraiser for Libertyville families
  • CrossFit Level One Certifications- November 23-24th, December 14-15th
  • Schedule changes
  • Trodo Box League Games- November 9th
  • Beginner's classes to be offered for all new members
  • Olympic Lifting course to start November 2nd

Winter is coming - now is the time to get further involved. With lots of opportunities above to participate in more than our CrossFit classes alone, take a chance and try something new! We're happy to help you get started!

Best,

Kirsten

CFF to host Thanksgiving Day fundraiser WOD

'Tis the season to take a step back and reflect on how fortunate we are to have all that we have in our lives.  Our families, our health, our friends, our freedom, and all things that we should never take for granted and be grateful for every day.  Especially this time of year, we try to reach out to those less fortunate to help enhance their holiday season.  CrossFit Freedom will host a Thanksgiving morning workout fundraiser for Libertyville families in need, in hopes of brightening the spirits of some members of our own community this Holiday season.

More details to come in the coming weeks- but mark your calenders for 9:00 am on Thanksgiving morning!
CrossFit to offer Level 1 Trainer Certifications at Freedom

We are very excited for the opportunity to host two Level 1 Trainer Certifications here at CFF! We will be hosting on November 23rd and 24th and again on December 14th and 15th. CrossFit HQ will be bringing in some of their finest to teach and certify interested individuals.

The Level 1 Trainer Certificate Course introduces the mechanical, conceptual, and theoretical foundations of CrossFit. Additionally, there will be "break out' sessions for demonstration and practical application of the 9 Foundational Movements. The lectures, demonstrations, presentations, and breakouts all serve to indoctrinate participants with CrossFit's conceptual underpinnings, while the workouts serve to reinforce/drive home the application.

The November 23 and 24th Level 1 is sold out. Click here to register for the December 14-15 Level 1!

* Please stay tuned for announcements regarding workout plans for Saturday 11/23 and Saturday 12/14!
Schedule Changes!

Starting the week of November 4th, there will be an addition of a Wednesday 9:30 a.m. class, and the evening schedule will go back to two classes Wednesday nights- 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

We will also open up for one hour on Sunday from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. This time is subject to change week to week (and will almost always begin earlier if the time is changed from 9:30 a.m.). Sunday hours will always be posted by mid-week.

Sundays will be an opportunity to make up a WOD from the week, work on a SPECIFIC skill, or do some extra conditioning/mobility work.  Athletes planning on attending Sunday sessions will have to sign up on the front board by Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and specify which WOD from the week they will be making up, or what specific skill they are coming in to work on.
Come support CFF's teams at the Trodo Games November 9

Come as a community. Wear your box colors. Represent your gym with pride.

Following the October 19th Trodo Open, we are pleased to be sending 3 teams to the Trodo Games, hosted here at Crossfit Freedom on November 9th! The games will run from 10a.m. to 6p.m. - Come support your athletes and your box, and get in on the action as teams from all over Chicagoland meet to compete in 4 exciting workouts over the course of the day.

Think your box has what it takes to come out on top? Come see as we get ready for a full day of throwdowns!

Regardless of Open participation, it is not to late to register a team for the Trodo Games. Find 3 other individuals from CFF(2 men, 2 women) and form a team! If you'd like to compete but do not have a team, contact Kirsten for assistance. Register for the Games here.

Beginners Classes to start November 4th

Beginning the week of November 4, Crossfit Freedom will offer beginners classes for new members.  All new members will be required to attend at least 4 beginners classes prior to attending our daily scheduled CrossFit classes. These classes will focus on the foundational movements of CrossFit, along with basic gymnastics skills and progressions.  We will cover the principles of CrossFit, along with typical class structure and routine.  We will touch on nutrition, mobility, recovery, performance tracking, and learn how to better understand power output and scaling options.

The purpose of these classes are to make you, the athlete, more knowledgeable and comfortable with our program prior to joining classes.  These classes will be ongoing and will be open to all current members as well to attend at any time going forward.  We can never practice the fundamentals enough, and these classes will be a great opportunity for new members to learn, and current members to refresh on technique and mechanics.  All beginners classes will include a WOD in addition to skill work, so they would take the place of daily classes rather than compliment them for current members.

Beginners classes will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:15am and 6:15pm, Fridays at 9:30am, and Saturdays at 10:30am.

Please call 847-573-9348 or contact [email protected] with questions.

Olympic Lifting Course to start November 2

Olympic Weightlifting is the only weightlifting sport participated in the Olympic Games and the CrossFit philosophy strongly adheres to the insertion of the Olympic lifts in its daily programming.

Spend 5 full weeks with the CrossFit Freedom team learning, studying and practicing the Olympic lifts. The snatch and clean and jerk bring speed, power, coordination, agility, accuracy and balance to your strength training. These lifts are indispensable to CrossFit programming and proper execution and form is a powerful advantage.

This course will begin November 2nd at 10:30 a.m. (this Saturday) and will run through December 7th. Please note - there will be no class on November 23rd. For more information on how to get started please contact Coach Scott Edson at [email protected] or click here to register.
