RecycleMania
Hocking College needs you to recycle more and waste less. We are competing against 300+ colleges nationwide now through April 4. Hocking College students, faculty and staff must all unite to win this championship and put Hocking College on the map. How can we win? - Recycle all possible materials (and throw less into your trashcan): Glass, cans, paper, cardboard, and all types of plastic
More than 40 years after the first Earth Day celebration, recycling is commonplace in many communities, yet a surprisingly high amount of recyclables still go in the trash. By framing recycling in competitive terms, RecycleMania seeks to tap school spirit as a motivator to reach students who may not otherwise respond to environmental messages. In the process, the program works to reinforce the practice of recycling at an age when many college students are forming the habits and values they will carry the rest of their lives. You can follow our success each week through the GREEN Hocking Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GRNHC.

Phi Theta Kappa Invitations Mailed This Month
Phi Theta Kappa has become a highly reputable and successful honor society over the years due in part to it being the oldest and largest honor society in the world. With such a long history and a large membership, there are now many reasons to become a Phi Theta Kappan.
Our honor society can offer an ample amount of opportunities and successes to those who are able to join and maintain an active role in the society. Phi Theta Kappa offers leadership roles, many learning experiences through projects, activities, and events, as well as the chance to win awards and recognition for accomplishments. There are also $87 million worth of scholarships to apply for once you have been accepted into the honor society. Joining Phi Theta Kappa is a great opportunity for those attending a two-year college and everyone is encouraged join.
In order to become an official Phi Theta Kappa member, you must have at least a 3.5 GPA. There are many great reasons to become a Phi Theta Kappan including the opportunity to build and strengthen personal, scholarly, and professional skills, taking trips to exciting destinations such as Baltimore, Maryland in 2016, attending events to meet like-minded friends and mentors while enjoying conferences geared toward bettering yourself and your chapter, and experiencing a fellowship like no other.
If you do not have a GPA that meets the requirement to join, then you can still participate with the honor society! This month, PTK will be emailing invitations to those who are eligible for membership and hope you consider joining to experience the many possibilities Phi Theta Kappa has to offer. Whether you are a member or not, feel free to attend the main campus chapter meetings on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in OAK 302. Logan campus meets at 5 p.m. Wednesdays in HCEI 126 and Perry Campus meets at 10 a.m. Fridays in Perry Commons.
For questions, contact PTK advisor Julie Cohara at coharaj@hocking.edu or visit the PTK page on the website.

Kudos to Student Center interns Robert Kreger and Ramone Petite for their great work on this year's "I Have a Dream" event celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The January 20 event featured an interactive exhibit in the spirit of MLK to explore the dreams of the student body at Hocking College.
Great job!
