Students Take Tour for Diverse Population Class
Chrissy Ward recently took her Diverse Population class on a rare tour of the Greek Orthodox Church in Columbus to study religion and immigrant diverse population.
The class then head to German Village where they lunched at Schmidt's Sausage House and continued to the Welcome Center. They then watched a presentation of the history of German immigration in Columbus. The day ended with a walking tour of the homes and businesses.
Class trips are great ways for students to engage in the learning process. Great job, Chrissy! |

eTextbooks: Reliable and Cost-Effective
eTextbooks are accessible, reliable and more accurate than paper textbooks. They have relevant tutorials that are available online for self-learners. A read-out-loud function allows the reader to listen to the book. Also, students can access the book on their phone, which 70 percent of students do.
The eTextbooks also have a big cost benefit. An average eTextbook is at least 50 percent cheaper than the new print book. In many cases, the discounts can reach far beyond that. Recently, Google came up with new eTextbooks and set a price point around 80 percent off the print list price.

Campus Greens Update
The campus community may notice some recent tree trimming in the field across the road from Light Hall. A Chainsaw class, under the direction of the Campus Greens office, has removed a series of dead pines in the area. The dead trees will be chipped, and replaced with plant materials in accordance with the campus landscaping plan. Please contact Andrew Freeman, Director of Campus Greens, with any questions.

Paramedic Alum Explores Dance Passion
Josh Hines, Hocking College alumnus, pursued his plans to obtain an Associate's Degree in Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services from Hocking College, but he has also been committed to his other passion -- dancing. "There's something about it," Hines said. "I can let go of everything and put it all out on the dance floor." Hines found this passion in high school because a friend needed a partner for swing-dancing lessons, to which Hines obliged. Throughout his time at Hocking College, Hines would dance several nights a week and compete on weekends, while maintaining his grades and career in firefighting. "It's about how each person has more than one identity - that people change from identity to identity throughout life." We hope all our students and alumni follow Hines lead to remain dedicated to their passions in and outside of their experience at Hocking College. Read more about Hines experience with dance on the Columbus Dispatch website.

Kudos to the School of Nursing and the School of Allied Health on this year's food drive. Their efforts were recognized by the Ohio University Credit Union. OUCU has been recognizing local groups doing good work in the community. Food was collected throughout November to benefit the Hocking College food pantry for students. Thanks for all your hard work!
