Short but Significant Safety: Tip #3
Defending property is important in staying safe because normally, property is linked to bigger items, such as a home or car. Here is how to be safe when it comes to personal items:
  • Do not lend your keys. Keys can be duplicated.
  • Do not mark your keys with your name, address or license number. Lost keys can lead to theft.
  • Engrave or mark all valuable personal items with an Owner Applied Number (OAN). Keep an inventory of your items. Take pictures of your valuables so you can have visual record of your property, if stolen you can give a copy to the police.
  • Move items out of easy sight of windows and doors.
  • Copy all important papers and cards that you keep in your purse or wallet. Keep those copies in a safe place -- the information will be invaluable if they are lost or stolen.
For more on safety, visit http://www.hocking.edu/campussafety/prevention.
